​I’ve run DeWalt on site for years, and to be fair, they’ve never let me down. Solid, reliable, and get the graft done day in, day out.

​That said, you can’t ignore what Milwaukee are doing right now. Between their specialised trade solutions and the entire Packout ecosystem, the efficiency side of things is seriously tempting.

​The dilemma: I want to maximise my workflow and van organisation, but the thought of replacing batteries, chargers, and entire setups from scratch makes my wallet sweat.

​For those who made the switch:

​Was switching platforms actually worth the reinvestment?

​Or is sticking with DeWalt and using adapters / ToughSystem the smarter play?

Screw terminals belong in history books, not on heavy plant. 🚫🔩

If you mount an enclosure to structural steel on a gantry crane, screening plant, or aggregate hopper, constant low-frequency vibration is working those screw clamps loose from day one.

Give it 12–18 months:
❌ Micro-arcing & high-resistance hot spots
❌ Phantom intermittent sensor trips
❌ Melted terminal housings and unplanned downtime

At , we standardise strictly on DIN-rail push-in/spring-clamp technology (WAGO / Phoenix Contact). The stainless steel cage clamp applies constant, dynamic pressure regardless of vibration, thermal expansion, or mechanical shock.

Things I won't apologise for while building Gantry Controls:

1.Holding myself to military-grade standards on the bench. Ex-forces habits don’t switch off when the shift ends.

2.Spending evenings in the workshop after a full day on heavy plant. Building something you own takes the hours others aren't willing to put in.

3.Saying 'no' to rushed, budget builds. We build BS-compliant panels designed to last decades, not just past the warranty period.

4.Backing myself to master the complex stuff. Real competence isn't built in a classroom; it's proven in the workshop, wire by wire, test by test.

Discipline in the day job, precision in the workshop, zero excuses. ☕⚡

Many people start their electrical engineering career early, but not me! After years of not knowing where I fit in, after working in numerous industries such as the military, construction, security engineering, and healthcare, I found my passion in controls and automation.
