When drones couldn't get the job done, we did it the right way.
A previous contractor had already attempted to clean the upper chimney stack at this Energy from Waste facility in Essex using drone-mounted high-pressure water systems. The panels were still carrying heavy staining and construction residue. The client needed a team that could get physically close to the surface and clean it properly.

We deployed five IRATA-qualified rope access technicians to a 70-metre stack at the Indaver Rivenhall IWMF. Working from twin-rope systems anchored to gantry-level steelwork, the team cleaned each panel section by hand across the full circumference of the stack, managing dropped object risk, daily site permits, and live CDM controls throughout.

No powered tools. No pressure washing. Just skilled operatives working systematically at height, with the safety management and digital audit trail to back it up.

A 26-year-old scaffolder stepped onto a warehouse roof skylight he couldn't see.

Seconds later he fell more than six metres, landing on a pallet truck before hitting a concrete floor. Broken arm. Broken leg. Head lacerations.

The HSE called it harrowing. They also called it entirely avoidable.

CCTV footage released as part of enforcement action captures the moment it happened at Acre Mills in Keighley. Two companies were fined a combined £85,333. One is now in liquidation.

The failures weren't complex. No pre-work roof survey. No briefing to the operative about fragile surfaces. No physical protection over the skylights. No active supervision.

Every one of those gaps is a legal duty under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and CDM 2015, not a best-practice recommendation.

Not every hazard is dramatic. Some are just a car park with no barrier where there should be one.

An unprotected area next to building services was being used for bin storage with nothing to prevent impact damage. Think Worksafe supplied, installed and certified 3.3 metres of galvanised twin-rail guardrail.

Small job. Real risk. Properly fixed.
