Bad weather doesn’t just affect the work taking place on a scaffold, it can affect the scaffold itself. 🌧️💨
As we move into a period of stronger winds and wetter conditions, scaffold safety requires ongoing attention.
Under the Work at Height Regulations, scaffolding used for construction work should be inspected before first use, at least every 7 days, and following circumstances that could jeopardise its safety, which can include severe weather.
High winds and heavy rain can introduce additional risks, from movement or damage to sheeting and netting, through to changing ground conditions around the scaffold.
A competent inspection should consider the structure as a whole, including ties, bracing, foundations, platforms, guardrails and any components that may have been affected.
Importantly, a quick visual check from ground level isn't a substitute for a proper scaffold inspection.
