Founded in 1981, JT Cranes is a family firm. We specialise in mini crane hire, contract lifting and repairs.

Established in 1981, John Taylor Crane Services Ltd is a family firm of crane specialists offering the answer to all your crane needs, from major repairs, accident recovery, servicing, testing, contract lifting and mini crane hire. Our growing fleet of mini cranes are incredibly compact cranes that provide the capacity and reach of much larger machines. These are the only solution in areas with restricted access or for confined working spaces. With the addition of our contract lifting division, we are a one stop shop for your crane requirements.

🚐 It all started with one van...
45 years ago, JT Cranes looked a little different.

In December 1980, after being refused a 10p-an-hour pay rise, John Taylor made the decision to leave his job and go it alone.

That Christmas, John and his wife Penny bought a van.

By January 1981, John Taylor Crane and Plant Field Services was up and running from the family home, with John travelling wherever the work took him and Penny keeping things moving back home.

That one decision became the beginning of JT Cranes as we know it today.

Over the decades, the business has grown into crane repairs, testing, mini crane hire and contract lifting, with the next generation of the Taylor family joining along the way.

The equipment may have changed considerably, but the foundations haven't:
Technical expertise. Hard work. Reliability. And a willingness to get the job done.

🍂 Autumn is here, and site conditions are changing.

More rain, softer ground and fewer daylight hours can all add extra considerations to lifting operations at this time of year.

That’s why proper planning matters. Before a lift takes place, factors including ground conditions, access, weather, working space and the requirements of the lift itself all need to be considered.

Because when conditions change, the plan needs to account for them too. 🏗️

Okay, technically... you can. 👀

When space is limited, a mini crane can get into places where conventional lifting equipment simply isn’t practical.
For this job, restricted access meant carefully manoeuvring the crane through a particularly tight route before setting up in the available space ready for the lift.

Tight access? Challenge accepted. 🏗️
