Spot of pond planting today! Continuous woven hazel fence and gate looking just stunning and lovely to see the dragon flies (& hornets!) checking out the vegetation. Purbeck circular pitchers beautifully laid and tie in so well with the pond.

Perfect ex*****on by southern waterscapes of my intended arcs. Just gorgeous! Starting to take shape on site and absolutely amazing to see the honey bees, swallows and Emperor Dragonflies drinking at the edges.

A magical (and slightly buzzy 🦟) day at Inverewe Gardens this week.

Fascinating to learn about how they are turning cleared invasive Rhododendron waste into Biochar to improve soil health and to learn that the Corsican Pine is fairing much better for Winter Storm resilience than the native Scots Pine. Just loved the Reindheer moss on the Quercus cerris 'Variegata' too.

Highly recommend a visit if you are up north, just don't forget your bug armour as worn by one of the gardeners!

Sizzling start to the week but the setting out is done on the large wildlife pond project in Wiltshire. With oak curved boardwalks and wide marginal planting areas, the pond will serve as a drinking spot for the large apiary which is close by. 🐝

Great to see everyone at the Southern Region SGLD Cluster meet yesterday and have time to wander the gardens. Loved the structure of this Quercus acutissima (Sawtooth Oak) with the winter under planting and the sweet smelling Hamamelis.

Fascinating SGLD CPD session 'Climate Resilient Tree Selection' on Monday run by Edinburgh based Landscape Architect and Planting Designer, John Frater. Using a systematic process based on the Koppen Geiger Climate
Classification system, habitat analysis and global distribution data maps such as Kew POWO, I've been learning how to test potential tree species for their climate resilience.
Loving getting back to my geography roots 😉🌎!
