'The French Connection'

I've fallen a bit behind with my posts and now so I'm going to try and play catch up!

These two beauties came in to Ben's Guitar Workshop thanks to Dom Corcoran.

The 'Gibson Les Paul Standard' just needed a simple clean and set up to get it back to its best, a true classic for a good reason.

The 'Vigier Excalibur' needed a bit more love.
It unfortunately sustained a few injuries when I took a bit of a........ 'tumble'. The neck had a few dents and scratches as well as a small crack. 'Vigier' don't seem to be making guitars anymore so sourcing any parts, especially a neck, has become difficult.
The necks on these guitars remind me of the 'Ernie Ball Musicman' necks so definitely worth repairing.
The frets also took some of the impact so a level and re-crown was in order.
I'm glad to say it was all good and it lives to fight another day!
Another stunning guitar!
I'm a lucky boy.

"I HAVE THE POWER!!"

It's quite a well know fact that 'He-man' has an alter ego, you might be mistaken by thinking it's 'Adam, Prince of Eternia, Worrior of Grayskull' when in fact it's none other than Mr Neil Hibbs The true 'Master of the Universe' (you'd understand if you saw him play it!)

It just needed a new scratch plate! 🤣🤣🤣
So I gave an early spring clean too.

If it wasn't for Neil I would never of started Ben's Guitar Workshop and for that I'm truly grateful.

Thank you for trusting me with another important guitar. Thank you for being a great support and even better friend.

"It's alive!....... ALIVE!"

"Do you think we can do anything with it?......"
"pass it here"

This well loved 'Epiphone les paul' came in to Ben's Guitar Workshop for an evaluation on whether it could be made playable again. It had been well used over it's life which tells me there must be 'something', a 'mojo' lurking inside.
It had a 'Bigsby' screwed to the top and some, out of place, looking pickups but after a closer look it was a 'proper' old Bigsby and a set of 'Gibson classic 57' pickups!

After sourcing a few parts it got a full rebuild, fret level, re-crown and setup.

When I was finished I contacted the owner, the one any only (there probably are more than one) Mr Simon Dickenson .
"Great! I've got a show tonight, I'll give it test run!" 😳
That was New years eve! Not the show that you would take risks at, so I'm massively appreciative that Simon had faith in the guitar................... Glad to report the show went well.

Always a pleasure to spent time with another guitar nerd, thanks Simon.

Two very different signature guitars!

The 'Jackson signature Scott Ian King V' is extreme........ Extremely great!
I liked the colour more every time I looked at it, I liked the classic V layout with the modern pointy bits, I liked how it played, I liked how it sounded but most of all.......... I loved how I looked in the mirror with it!

The 'Original' signature 'Gibson Les Paul Standard'. There's not much left to say that hasn't already been said about these. Though there are lots of great guitars that look and play very similar, if you want a proper 'Les Paul' this is it!

Both guitars came in to Ben's Guitar Workshop for a full set up, a massive thank you to Parker for popping round.

"Everybody's going surfing........"

This retro cool 'Squier Jazzmaster' had a double dip at Ben's Guitar Workshop.
Between myself and the owner Adam Ross This guitar has been turned from 'jangly chime' to 'knarly filth'. The first visit to the workshop was just sorting a few gremlins in the wiring after a full electrics swap. Now sporting the 'USA Ultra Noiseless' pickups and 'S1' switching, giving it a huge range of punchy tones.
The second visit was for a full setup. After treating the nut, frets and board to some love and a tweak to the action it plays like silk!

Thank you Adam for popping round, it was great meeting you and I look forward to seeing how the guitar turns out............. To Be Continued!

'My mate.............. Marmite'

This 'Fender Acoustasonic Jazzmaster' was described as a 'Marmite' guitar before even coming out of the case.

To be honest you either love it, or ................

You just haven't had one in your hands yet!

It's great!
A great cross over guitar for a gigging guitar player who doesn't want to faff about bringing two guitars just for 'the one bit in the one song', or an electric band that "can't use drums! because they're too loud!...? " so need to go 'unplugged' at the last minute. 🤣🤣

It really is good and most of all, inspiring, which has to be the whole point.....?.
After having a little setup I sat for quite a while with it and I was playing things I've never played, I'd love to add one to my collection.

Don't judge until you've tried one!

Thank you so much Mark Fuller ,always a pleasure to see you and shoot the breeze.
Thanks for visiting Ben's Guitar Workshop again.

"Don't fret!..........
.............. It'll be fine!"

A really lovely 20 year old 'MIM Fender Stratocaster' came to Ben's Guitar Workshop courtesy of Guy Allen.
Initially coming in for a Re-fret but after a check over it was decided that there was plenty of life in the frets. A level and re-crown then a good set up and it was back playing like silk
A huge thank you to Guy for getting in touch and bringing your guitar to me, much appreciated.

"Sanctioned OIL!.......... shhhh"

This stunning 'Fender Telecaster Ultra' in 'Texas Tea' finish came to Ben's Guitar Workshop for a little set up.
I've been waiting to see this colour in person and it didn't disappoint. A great work horse guitar, with 'noiseless' pickups and the 'S1' switch you have pretty much all bases covered. A great guitar.

Huge thanks to Taylor for bringing it along, sorry it took so long to post. Another 'must see' guitar ticked off my list, thank you so much.

'3 is the magic number'

A massive thank you to Simon Tonka for bringing these 3 beauties to Ben's Guitar Workshop.

'Epiphone Rivoli bass'... New 'Mudbucker' installed, fret polish and setup.....more thud than Thors hammer!

'Rickenbacker 4001' (I think that's the model? Sorry) just a fret polish and setup for this one, Rickenbacker bass, what's left to say?

'Epiphone Casino'.... A cool project. "can you make it look older?"........ Sand paper at the ready........... I love my job!........ A 'mild' aging job on this 'Casino' just to take the shine away, a new set of pickups with '62 nickel covers (I enjoyed playing with acid!) and a new wiring harness.
It has mojo coming out of its' f holes'!

Thanks again Simon, always a pleasure to see you and work on your amazing guitars.
