This house truly became a home today. As we finished up, the kids came zooming in on their little scooters fresh from the school run. Their little face was the reward.

For anyone who missed it yesterday morning, I’ve put it together with a photo and posted it on social media so everyone can listen to it as many times as you like.

I’m absolutely blown away by how well he carries himself live on air! I was expecting a little joke somewhere along the way — but throwing my Mam under the bus like that… 😂

So incredibly proud of my Dad — he never ceases to amaze me. Even at the brilliant age of 79, what an incredible man he is. ❤️

🎨 Dave Downing… Salford in My Own Words and Pictures
Dave Downing is a 79 year old artist and a proud “proper Salford man”, who is holding his very first art exhibition as part of Salford’s centenary celebrations.
Born in 1947 in Hanky Park, Dave grew up during a time of huge change in Salford. He witnessed the historic slum clearances that transformed the city and, over the past 20 years, has devoted his time to capturing the streets, buildings and memories of the Salford he knew as a child.
Through a unique combination of detailed oil paintings and heartfelt poetry, Dave brings those memories back to life. His work tells the story of a changing Salford, from the streets he grew up in and the characters who made them special, to the emotional highs and lows of a city undergoing enormous change.
Each painting is accompanied by Dave’s own words, creating a deeply personal collection that reflects not only what Salford looked like, but what Salford felt like to the people who lived there.
This exhibition is part of the wider Salford 100 celebrations, marking 100 years since Salford was officially granted city status.

The Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Right here where we live 🤯

I was incredibly proud of this project 😊

I hope as many people as possible will visit to see the project and learn about the history right on our doorstep in worsley. Please take a close look at the children’s messages on the coal truck — written by 6 and 7‑year‑old boys and girls, sharing their personal reflections on life working down the mine shafts: 12‑hour days, with never a glimpse of daylight.

I spent some time with my 6‑year‑old son explaining what life would have been like for him 200 years ago — then we brightened the mood crossing the ABC bridge 😊

🎨 Dave's Salford Art Exhibition – Appeal for Easels
Hello everyone,

Some of you may already know — my Dad is holding an exhibition of his artwork and poetry celebrating Salford’s 100th birthday. His paintings capture Salford as he remembers it from his childhood, and we’re so excited to share them.

We’re in need of around 12 easels to display his work. They’ll only be required for a few weeks, and we’ll take great care of them.
