Rated Fire Doors must have all components certified to the correct specification. A common mistake is to swap out a Euro Cylinder and not check if it's suitable. This door failed the fire safety test for this reason.

Don't often see a faulty 3* Yale cylinder unless it's been tampered with. Anyway that's what this turned out to be. Here's me checking the gearbox and mech before reassembly, but lock not fixed (customer refused the offer) because it was just a quote for insurance. So no charge.

Google AI Overview was returning bad results for LockServe recently because of another company with a similar name in Reading getting bad reviews. I think I've fixed it now but I wondered why the phone had gone quiet!

A property management company that normally gives me work had been replacing euro cylinders himself recently. And why not? It's easy enough. But is he saving money if he values his time? Not on this job. A couple of wasted visits and couldn't find the right part.

It's not a Euro cylinder, but he didn't realise.

Happily, he called me to help and I went along straight away to a vulnerable tenant to fix it.

I get at least one complaint a month from customers thinking I'm someone else. Rogue locksmiths all over the country with no training have used my name. From Portsmouth to Leicester to Oxford and Manchester.
The trouble is, anyone can call themselves a locksmith, because it's not a regulated industry. That's why, considering what's at stake, it's important that you find a locksmith that's qualified, either with a diploma (as in my case with a Level 3 Diploma in Commercial Locksmith and Property Security) or through the Master Locksmith Association, or City & Guilds.

Even on a simple job I do the extra work to save you future problems.
Key was sticking and just needed a new cylinder. Upgraded to anti-snap and reduced the length to increase the security. I took out the gearbox and multipoint mechanism to check, clean and l**e. Door was tight so I adjusted the hinges for realignment. All part of the first hour labour rate. No extra cost except for the cylinder.
Expect more for less with LockServe.

I was given these because the owner had forgotten the codes. Tricky opens because they're so cheaply made that it can be difficult to feel the true gates from the false gates. Even when the correct numbers are lined up they don't open until they've been slightly misaligned.
Of course, it's cheaper to buy 2 new locks than pay me to open them, but I'm just showing off..
