ποΈ BEDBUGS β THEYβRE NOT ATTRACTED TO DIRT!
Although there is a certain stigma surrounding bedbugs, they can turn up in even the cleanest homes, hotels and properties. Theyβre excellent hitchhikers and can be transported on luggage, clothing, furniture and other belongings.
But how do they actually find you?
Bedbugs follow the signs of a host and are attracted by several biological cues, including:
π¨ COβ β The carbon dioxide we breathe out helps alert bed bugs that a potential host is nearby.
π‘οΈ Body heat β Once they're in the vicinity, warmth helps them locate a suitable feeding site.
π Human odours β Other chemical cues from our bodies can help them home in on us.
πͺ³ Aggregation pheromones β Bed bugs also produce chemical signals that help them find suitable harbourages and congregate together.
And then there's reproductionβ¦
A female bedbug can produce around 200β500 eggs during her lifetime, with females capable of laying several eggs per day under favourable conditions. Eggs are often hidden in cracks, crevices, furniture and around bed frames.
Thatβs why simply killing the ones you can see isn't enough. A proper inspection and treatment strategy is essential when dealing with a bedbug infestation.
