Residents of Beaverton, Oregon, got an unexpected laugh thanks to a mischievous cat named Esme. Known for bringing home gardening gloves, face masks, kneepads, and other random items from around the neighborhood, Esme earned a reputation as a serial “collector.” To return the missing belongings, owner Kate Felmet created a front-yard display featuring a sign that read, “My Cat Is a Thief,” along with the recovered items hanging on a clothesline. The quirky neighborhood lost-and-found quickly became a local attraction and a viral feel-good story that delighted people across the country.
