If you've got trees or large bushes hanging right over your roofline, this is exactly what ends up happening.
​Gutters are built for one specific purpose: diverting rainwater safely away from your property. They definitely aren't meant to be catch nets for dropped leaves, twigs, and moss!

I was on a gutter clear yesterday and wanted to share this, as it’s something that gets missed all too often.
​It’s easy to look up at the roofline and assume the job's sorted once the gutters are empty.
But all that rainwater actually has to go somewhere!
In the first photo, you can see where a downpipe that goes straight into the ground. It looked completely fine from the outside, but just below the surface, it was packed solid with dirt and muck.
​If I'd just cleared the roof and packed up the van, the next heavy downpour would have sent water backing up the pipe and overflowing right at the base of the house. That's how serious damp problems start.
​After a proper dig out and a good flush through, I got it running completely clear again as you can see in the second picture.
​This is why I always make a point to check downpipes right down to ground level, not just what's visible above it.
There's no point doing half a job!

Had my son helping me out on a job today.

He reckons he’s bigger and stronger than me now, so I gave him the hard to reach gutters with the gutter vac poles while I stuck to the easier bits 😂

Fair play to him though, he did a great job 👌

Don’t think he’ll be offering to help again after manoeuvring those poles around all afternoon..
