A proposal for a contemporary rural dwelling shaped by the agricultural character of its rural farm setting.
The proposal transforms two existing grain silos and a traditional stone barn in Cornwall into a singular home for two young farmers. Rather than replacing the buildings agricultural fabric, the design works within it — retaining the robust stone barn and distinctive cylindrical silos as the defining elements of the new dwelling.
New interventions are deliberately restrained, allowing the existing structures to establish the material and spatial character of the home. High-performance insulation, airtight construction and carefully orientated glazing support a low-energy approach, while generous south-facing openings draw daylight deep into the interior and frame connections to the surrounding landscape.
The result is an architecture of continuity and transformation: a contemporary home rooted in the history, materiality and working landscape of Cornwall.
