Go on, admit it... you like a bit of topiary! On the left is an osmanthus x burkwoodii and the right a taxus bacatta (a yew). A before photo, their autumnal trim and the result after. A very satisfying task!

It’s been a difficult summer. It’s been hot. It’s been incredibly dry. And guess what, it’s not been the best summer for gardener’s either! So to reach this time in September and to find plants still giving their all, we must salute them. So, thank you to heleniums, asters and delphiniums for not disappointing!

Is your lawn looking shocking? After a spring and summer that has been incredibly hot and dry your grass is probably looking pretty similar to the photos here! Lots of brown patchy areas with dead grass. If you poke the dead grass with your finger you’ll discover that it feels like a piece of old carpet, this is ‘thatch’ i.e. dead grass and moss that needs to be removed. The best and easiest way is to use a petrol driven scarifier; this will help to remove the thatch and allow the grass to rejuvenate. Having the weather change helps enormously, a bit of rain never goes amiss!

Over the years we've changed many features and now when you walk through it you will be surprised by the many interesting and unusual views (which I shall post later...) Although exiting the property (see last two photos) is a little tricky due to the narrow driveway!
