Bungalows get underestimated.

A simple footprint and single-storey layout can actually make them one of the most flexible house types to rethink.

The real opportunity isn’t always adding more space, but reorganising what’s already there: bringing in more daylight, improving the relationship with the garden or using the roof space properly.

Can your neighbour stop your extension? Usually... no.

They can object, but the council will only give weight to concerns that are relevant to planning – things like overlooking, loss of light, scale or access.

That’s why it’s worth identifying those issues early and adjusting the design where needed.

A small change to a window, boundary relationship or overall massing can make a big difference before the application goes in.

A good extension doesn't have to imitate what’s already there.

In some cases, a clearly contemporary addition can be the more sensitive approach — giving the original building space to retain its character while making the new work feel intentional.

The key is getting the proportion, materials and relationship between old and new right.

Tendering gives you more than a list of prices.

It helps make sure contractors are pricing the same scope, exposes gaps before work starts and gives you a much clearer idea of what the build is likely to cost.

A contemporary extension with a strong connection to its rural setting.

Located in a small rural village with a history of local sandstone, the design carefully combines this traditional material with a contemporary architectural approach, complementing the character of the existing property.

Our design creates a large, open kitchen at the heart of the home, improving connections with the existing social spaces, while a new, more pronounced entrance gives the property a clearer sense of arrival.

We worked with the client from concept through to completion, providing architectural services across RIBA Stages 0–7, including contract administration throughout construction.

A considered transformation that brings light, connection and purpose to the home while respecting its surroundings.

From first sketch to finished build.

Meadow Bank started as a house that no longer worked for the way its owners wanted to live. The brief was simple: create brighter, more connected spaces and make better use of the relationship between the house and the garden.

The solution was a carefully considered rear extension, two-storey side extension, and full internal reconfiguration, designed around daylight, orientation and how the spaces would be used throughout the year.

The design changed very little from first sketch to final build, which is often a sign that the fundamentals were right from the beginning.

Planning approved for this North Wales remodelling and extension project.

The existing house sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which meant careful collaboration with both the planning authority and AONB officers.

The design introduces a contemporary architectural intervention that works alongside the existing building; it brings new life to the property while staying sensitive to its rural setting.
