🔐 Practical locksmithing at the MLA Midlands Region Weekend!

We're underway with Andy Tristram's practical locksmithing session, with members getting together to explore different techniques, share knowledge and pick up a few ideas along the way.

Today's session covers hand-cutting a 3G110 key, a lost-key practical exercise, radial pin tumbler locks and some useful time-saving tools.

A great opportunity to learn from each other, ask questions and spend some time with fellow locksmiths.

🔐 Another great evening of learning, sharing knowledge and catching up at our MLA London Region meeting!

Members were joined by Roy Buckingham from MLA Affiliate Partner ABLOY UK (ASSA ABLOY), who shared his knowledge of digital access solutions and gave everyone plenty to think about when considering the options available to their customers.

🏅 The evening also gave us the opportunity to celebrate Tim Szybiak's 25 years of MLA membership, with Tim receiving his long-service loyalty badge. Congratulations, Tim, and thank you for your continued support!

👏 A special thank you also goes to Gary Watts, who generously donated a pick that raised over £93 for the charity fund.

And, of course, thank you to ASSA ABLOY for kindly sponsoring the evening's food and to everyone who came along and made it another enjoyable meeting.

🔐 MLA APPROVED COMPANY VACANCY | EXPERIENCED LOCKSMITH

Dennis Security, an established family-run business since 1959, is looking for an experienced locksmith to join their team on a full-time basis.

They are looking for someone with experience in:

🔑 Lock fitting
🔑 Lock opening
🔑 Bench locksmithing
🔑 Key cutting

The successful applicant should be able to work both independently and as part of a team, with a professional, polite and customer-focused approach when working with customers and on-site at residential and commercial properties.

Requirements:
- Full, clean UK driving licence
- Applicants will need to pass an Enhanced DBS check

Working hours:

🕘 Monday–Friday, 8.30am–5.00pm, with opportunities for overtime.

What's on offer:
- Good salary, depending on experience
- 20 days' annual leave + Bank Holidays, increasing each year to a maximum of 26 days
- Pension scheme
- Uniform provided

Our Managing Director, Steffan George, joined BBC Breakfast to discuss the growing problem of rogue locksmiths and the impact these scams are having on consumers.

Complaints to the MLA have more than doubled, with consumers continuing to report misleading advertising, unexpected charges and unnecessary work.

During the programme, Steffan discussed why more needs to be done to tackle rogue operators and shared practical advice to help people avoid being caught out.

🔑 Could a key safe help you avoid getting locked out?

During this morning's BBC Breakfast discussion about rogue locksmiths, the presenters asked our MD, Steffan George, about key safes as a way of avoiding emergency lockouts.

Steffan explained that if you're considering a key safe, it's important to choose one that has been independently security tested and approved by Sold Secure.

Not all key safes offer the same level of security, so choosing the right product matters.

✅ Look for a Sold Secure approved key safe.
✅ Ask your local **MLA Approved Company** about sourcing and fitting a suitable key safe for your property.
✅ Be prepared before you need that spare key.

🔐 Locksmith scams continue to leave consumers seriously out of pocket.

This morning, BBC Breakfast highlighted the issue of rogue locksmiths, sharing a consumer's experience alongside complaints data from the Master Locksmiths Association.

Complaints to the MLA have more than doubled, highlighting why greater consumer awareness and action on misleading emergency locksmith advertising are so important.

We're continuing to call for change, but there's also one simple step everyone can take:
