πŸŽ‰ We're proud to announce that Solent Power has achieved ISO 9001 certification!

This milestone reflects the dedication of every member of our team β€” from the engineers on-site keeping critical power systems running, to the coordinators, compliance specialists, and support staff working behind the scenes every day.

Achieving this standard doesn't happen by accident; it's the result of consistent hard work, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to doing things properly.

What ISO 9001 means for us:

It's formal recognition that our quality management systems meet a rigorous, internationally recognised standard β€” covering everything from how we plan and deliver projects to how we handle customer feedback and continuous improvement.

What it means for our clients:

βœ… Greater consistency and reliability in every job we deliver

βœ… Stronger quality controls across our generator and UPS projects, servicing and maintenance

βœ… Confidence that when you work with Solent Power, you're working with a business that takes quality seriously β€” not just on paper, but in practice

A huge thank you to the whole team for making this happen πŸ’ͺ

Here's to raising the bar even further as we grow. ⚑

A local care provider can finally relax during their power outages ☺️

This 100kVA standby generator will provide full automatic backup power for two buildings in the event of power cuts ⚑

With the clients facility located in a rural area, they get frequent power cuts and have experienced outages for several days in the past.

To protect them further we have installed an external 1000L fuel tank providing extended running time.

Our team provided a challenging delivery, lifting and positioning and followed up to carry out the mechanical pipework, electrical installation and commissioning.

The client also has the peace of mind of a service plan with 24/7 technical support and dedicated engineer response times.
..
Providing a complete end to end service is how we best serve you as a client.

From specification, to supply, delivery, installation and ongoing maintenance support.....our in house team will support you all the way.

If you have requirements for diesel generators on your projects, please reach out for a friendly conversation and see how we can help you!

A generator that starts isn't the same as a generator that works.

When the mains drops and the building leans on it, will it actually deliver rated output? The only way to know is to test it under full building load or using a loadbank.

Where load banking is formally required:

➑️ Healthcare sites under HTM 06-01 (annual full-load testing)
➑️ Data centres operating to Uptime Institute tier standards
➑️ Specifications referencing BS 7698-13 / ISO 8528-13
➑️ Many PFI, FM and critical infrastructure contracts

It's also captured indirectly by most commercial insurance policies, which require equipment to be "maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations" β€” and almost every major engine OEM recommends annual load testing.

The benefits go beyond compliance:

βœ… Proves the genset will deliver its nameplate kW
βœ… Burns off wet stacking β€” the unburned fuel and carbon deposits that build up in lightly loaded engines
βœ… Validates the alternator, cooling system, fuel system and controls end-to-end
βœ… Reveals faults in a controlled environment, not during a real outage

Here's what concerns us.... We regularly take over servicing contracts where the generator has had years of paper-perfect maintenance β€” oil changes, filter swaps, visual inspections β€” but has never been run on load.

In those cases the generator is, in practical terms, untested.

The wet stacking is already there. The hidden alternator fault is already there. The site owner only finds out when the mains finally goes down.

A service contract that doesn't include load testing is maintaining the engine, not protecting the site.

If you're unsure whether your standby provision has been properly load tested, talk to us. We bring the load bank, the data, and the certificate.

πŸ”’ Solent Power Ltd is now Cyber Essentials certified

We're delighted to announce that Solent Power Ltd has achieved Cyber Essentials certification β€” the UK government-backed standard for cyber security best practice.

This milestone reflects the significant investment we've made over the past year in modernising our IT infrastructure, strengthening our internal systems, and embedding security best practice across every corner of the business.
What does this mean for our clients and partners?

βœ… Robust protection against the most common cyber threats
βœ… Confidence that your data, drawings, and project information are handled securely
βœ… Assurance that we meet the requirements increasingly expected on public sector and supply chain contracts
βœ… A clear demonstration of our commitment to information security β€” alongside the safety, quality, and environmental standards we already hold

Achieving this certification is part of a wider period of growth at Solent Power. As our project pipeline and client base have expanded, we've made it a priority to invest in the people, processes, and technology that enable us to deliver reliably and at scale β€” without compromising on the standards our clients expect.

A big thank you to everyone across the team, and to the IT partners who supported us through the process.
Onwards and upwards. ⚑

Buying critical power equipment shouldn't feel like a gamble 🎲

But for too many of the businesses that come to us, that's exactly what their last project felt like:

β†’ Lead times that slipped quietly by weeks, holding up the entire site programme
β†’ Equipment that didn't quite match the brief, with no one taking responsibility
β†’ Warranty claims bouncing between supplier, manufacturer and installer
β†’ Poor sales advice that fails to inform the customer of key compliance and technical factors regarding their equipment and installation.

You shouldn't have to chase, escalate or compromise to get the kit you paid for working as it should.

We have a completely different culture and approach at Solent Power.

Our engineers specify what your site actually needs β€” not what's easiest to shift or the cheapest option.

Our in-house technical team and field service engineers stand behind every install, so when you call us, you reach the people who supplied and commissioned the equipment.
..And if anything ever needs to go through warranty, we own it end to end.

This week, five 165kVA diesel gensets left us bound for new sites β€” each backed by the same full lifecycle support we give every customer, from first conversation to long after commissioning.

Featuring Baudouin engines with a 5 year standby warranty, and STAMFORD | AvK alternators known for their market leading reliability, and Deep Sea Electronics Ltd control modules for operator ease and remote accessibility.

If your next power project deserves a partner rather than just a supplier, get in touch.

It is easy to overlook details when specifying on generator projects.

Below are some considerations that are often missed....

❌ Sizing on connected load, not running load. Spec the set against everything on the schedule and you end up with a heavily oversized machine running at 20% load. The result is wet-stacking, glazed bores and a maintenance liability β€” not the resilience the client paid for.

❌ Ignoring transient response. A set can meet the steady-state kW perfectly and still trip when the largest motor or UPS rectifier hits it. Step load and ISO 8528-5 transient class rarely make it into the spec, and that's where commissioning goes wrong.

❌ Underestimating non-linear loads. VSDs, UPS rectifiers and modern LED loads inject harmonics that derate a standard alternator. Without PMG excitation and the right oversizing, the alternator runs hot and the warranty conversation gets awkward.

❌ Forgetting heat rejection. Undersized louvres and restricted plant-room airflow quietly derate the set below its nameplate rating, and nobody finds out until a hot day.

There are many more....but the point is that doing this work is not simple and requires professional support.

At Solent Power, our experienced in-house Technical Manager reviews generator specifications at the design stage β€” before the kit is ordered, before the programme is committed.

Paired with a sales team that has specified and delivered critical power for years, we turn a load schedule into a set that performs in the real world, stays compliant, and doesn't come back to bite you on the project you put your name to.

Working on a project with standby power in scope? Send us across the specification documents and we'll give you a straight technical view β€” no obligation, just a second set of expert eyes before it's locked in. πŸ”΄
