A pressure wash can completely change the look of an outdoor space.

These paths and paved areas had built up with dirt, moss and general weathering over time, leaving the surfaces looking tired.

This pressure washing job brought these paths and paved areas right back up, lifting built-up grime and leaving a much cleaner finish underneath.

Sometimes the best transformations are the simplest ones.

Commercial construction often means finding a way to complete complex work without disrupting the people using the building.

This project at M&S, Fosse Park included several packages of structural steelwork across the site.

The scope covered a rear loading dock canopy and walkway, a plant deck for new air-handling equipment, internal bulkhead steelwork, and new entrance and signage structures across two elevations.

Each element began with a detailed survey of the existing building. Designs, setting-out information and fabrication drawings were then produced so the steelwork could be accurately manufactured and installed.

Sections of the existing façade were stripped back to expose the main structure, allowing new connections to be marked, drilled and installed. New concrete pads were formed for the external columns, while the entrance frames connected back into the existing roof and eaves structure.

Because the store remained operational, preparation took place during the day behind secure hoarding, with the main steel installations completed overnight while the building was closed.

It was a detailed project that required careful sequencing, accurate design and close attention to safety.

A successful installation starts long before the steel arrives on site.

This project at Morrisons, Cribbs Causeway involved creating a new entrance lobby and counter area within an existing retail building.

The process included surveying the existing structure, producing design and fabrication drawings, removing redundant elements and preparing the site for the new layout.

New concrete pads were installed for the structural columns, while the existing steelwork was marked and drilled to form the required connections. The new galvanised frame was then lifted into position, assembled, aligned and secured using specialist access equipment.

Additional steelwork was also installed to form internal rooms, signage supports and a new plant deck.

I acted as site supervisor during the installation, coordinating the work and ensuring it was delivered safely within a live retail environment. The project was recognised with a green card and an award for safe working practices and procedures.

That experience continues to influence how I work today.

Before launching TS Ace of Trades, I worked on a range of large-scale construction projects, including this project at ASDA in West Swindon.

It involved the survey, design, manufacture and installation of new structural steelwork, cladding supports and signage.

The work began with a detailed survey of the existing building and steel structure. From this, CAD layouts, setting-out drawings, connection details and fabrication drawings were produced before the galvanised steelwork was manufactured.

As the store and shopping centre remained operational, the work had to be carefully planned around a live public environment. Safe working zones were established, existing cladding and signage were removed, and the new steelwork was installed using a telehandler, cherry pickers and scissor lifts.

Once the structure was lined, levelled and secured, the new cladding and ASDA signage were installed to complete the updated corner of the building.

Projects like this taught me the importance of accurate surveying, careful planning and understanding how every part of a building connects.

Before starting TS Ace of Trades, I many spent years working on major construction and engineering projects across the UK.

One of those projects was this development on Leahs Yard in Sheffield, where a new steel structure was installed within the existing walls of a listed building.

The original pub façade had to remain in place, meaning the new structure had to be carefully surveyed, designed, manufactured and installed within the existing footprint.

Using cranes and specialist access equipment, the steelwork was lifted into position to create the framework for the new building.

Projects like this helped shape my approach today.

A recent exterior maintenance project completed on this stone property in Sheffield.

The gutters, brackets, window cills and canopy had started to deteriorate, with flaking paint and signs of wear from years of exposure to the elements.

After thorough preparation, priming and repainting, the property now looks sharper, is better protected, and is ready to withstand whatever the Yorkshire weather throws at it.
