Today's mission... security upgrade complete. 📹💥

Out with the old 2.4MP Sony cameras... in with a crystal-clear 8MP Colour View system with built-in microphones. Day or night, the difference is absolutely unreal. Sharp images, full colour, and sound to match. 👌

Now here's the bit that winds us up...

This customer had FOUR quotes, every single one well over a grand. Why? Big house? Nice motors on the drive? Who knows.

🚨 Another one made safer by ARE Electrical Services. ⚡

This one wasn't a horror story... but it definitely wasn't right.

The existing metal-clad twin RCD consumer unit had one RCD that wouldn't trip under fault conditions or even on the test button.

The other? It was tripping at just 17mA. You only had to look at it and it'd throw a tantrum! 🤦‍♂️

The fault had already been picked up during the EICR, so we gave the landlord two options:
✅ Replace the faulty RCDs and keep costs down.
✅ Upgrade to a brand new Wylex SPD RCBO consumer unit....

Fair play to the landlord... he chose to invest in his property and, more importantly, the safety of his tenants. 👏

Out with the old. In with a fully compliant, surge-protected RCBO board that's built for today's standards. Job done properly, paperwork complete, and another property made that little bit safer. 💪

If your consumer unit has been flagged on an EICR, don't ignore it. Sometimes a simple repair is enough. Sometimes an upgrade is the better long-term investment. We'll always give you the honest options.

Today's job was a bit different... 👀⚡

We removed a perfectly serviceable metal-clad twin RCD consumer unit. Not because it had failed, but because it had been fitted vertically inside a larger cabinet and the customer wanted a cleaner, more practical setup.

So, out came the old board, we framed out the cabinet properly, and installed a brand new metal-clad SPD RCBO consumer unit. Fully compliant, fully tested, fully certified, and looking a whole lot tidier. 🔥
Now here's the question...

The customer is always right... but are they? 🤔

As electricians, we sometimes replace equipment that still works because the customer wants something different. If it's safe, compliant, and they're happy to invest in their property,
then that's their choice.

Would you have kept the old board because it still worked, or upgraded it for the cleaner finish and the added benefits of individual RCBO protection and surge protection?

Today's job was a proper transformation.
We removed a tired old 1970s fuse board that had done its job for decades and replaced it with a brand new 2026-spec consumer unit, complete with individual RCBO protection and Surge Protection (SPD).

What does that actually mean for the customer?

✅ Better protection against electric shock.
✅ Better protection against electrical faults. ✅ Protection against power surges that can damage expensive appliances.
✅ Fully tested.
✅ Fully certified.
✅ Fully compliant with current regulations.

It's not about fitting shiny new equipment for the sake of it.

It's about making homes safer, giving customers peace of mind, and ensuring the electrical installation is fit for many years to come.

If you've still got an old rewireable fuse board or an ageing consumer unit, it doesn't automatically mean you need a full rewire.

Get it tested properly first. Honest advice always comes before expensive recommendations.
