⚡ The tree survived. The electrical installation didn't.
This tree has been struck by lightning three times in the last 10 years.
The scars visible in these photos tell part of the story. Some are old, some are fresh, with the most recent strike leaving a clear path down the trunk.
What you can't see is the damage caused to the nearby property's electrical installation.
Following the strike, we were called in to investigate, test the installation, identify the extent of the damage and carry out the necessary repairs.
What we found was a reminder of just how important correct earthing and surge protection can be.
An incorrectly installed earth rod had contributed to the damage caused by the surge event, resulting in faults throughout the installation, including a shed supply cable that had suffered significant thermal damage and partially melted.
Our work included:
✅ Full inspection and testing of the installation
✅ Fault finding and diagnosis of damaged circuits
✅ Repair and replacement of affected equipment
✅ Replacement of the damaged shed supply cable
✅ Installation of a new consumer unit
✅ Installation of a Type 1+2+3 Surge Protection Device (SPD)
✅ New external cable installation using D-Line wrap and lock cleats
The external installation was completed using the Spit Pulsa 27E, helping us achieve a tidy and efficient finish.
The biggest lesson from this job?
Lightning doesn't need to strike your property directly to cause serious electrical damage.
A nearby strike can expose weaknesses in earthing arrangements, destroy equipment and lead to costly repairs.
The question is:
⚡ If lightning struck near your property tomorrow, would your installation be ready for it?
