When we asked Ruth, one of our buyers, what’s top of her planting list this weekend, there was only one answer: hellebores, hellebores, hellebores!

Now is the perfect time to plant these winter treasures, bringing welcome colour and life to the garden through the colder, darker months.

Her other must-have? Daphne, for its exquisite scent. These lovely shrubs are a wonderful choice for smaller gardens, where even one plant can fill the air with the most delicious fragrance.

Two gorgeous ways to bring a little more colour, scent and joy to the winter garden.

We sat down with Tom and asked him what he would without doubt, be planting in the next few weeks.

He's a big fan of specieis tulips, as they are perfect alongside each other in small table-top pots.

Tom can't go an autumn without planting some new scented narcissi. For him they signify everything wonderful about sprinttime and he's trying three fromt he range: 'Polly's Pearl', 'Nickelodeon' and 'Eaton Song'. Planted in small terracotta pots on the table outside his dining room window.

When it comes to Alliums, these go exclusively in his beds, the more the merrier. His constant pick, is 'Purple Sensation'

And finally he'll be getting some Digitalis in the ground - which will bloom in late spring and early summer. Perfectly paired with alliums.

When Josie, Head Gardener at Perch Hill was asked what would be on the top of her Autumn planting wish list, unsurprisingly the answer was shrubs and climbers. All of which benefit from being planted now, so they can get established, get their roots down to help better withstand drier conditions come summer.

Hydrangea paniculata 'Kyushu' was on the list, a beautiful airy headed variety, and delicate too.

Abelia grandiflora is one of the plants Josie would plant wherever she goes. This summer in the drought it wasn't watered once and it it didn't falter.

And finally Lonicera periclymenum 'Graham Thomas' - "Easy going, highly scented - the best!'.

What will you be planting this autumn?

We asked Sarah what she'll be up to in the garden this weekend. We got the following back, almost instantly, without hesitation.

She'll be sowing one of her favourite antirrhinums, 'Liberty Crimson Classic' which will fill her vases with colour next summer.

Edible pot toppers were also on the list. If sown this weekend, in 4 weeks time they will be ready to be planted on top of pots filled with bulbs.

Wallflowers will be planted en masse. Some in their final planting position, some may be transferred to pots once they have been planted up with tulips.

What will you be doing in the garden this weekend?
