🚧 “Christ, not another road closed in Harrogate!” 😅
We know, we get it… you spot the sign, have a grumble and realise your usual shortcut is off the cards.
But there’s a good reason for this one 👇
The lads have been using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) on this narrow back road to install pipe underground, saving us from digging a trench along the whole route whilst installing a rising main.
The drill rig, support vehicles and team need room to work safely. On a road this tight, that means a temporary closure to protect both the lads and everyone travelling through.
The markings in photo 3 show what the lads do once they've identified any underground services and mark out the planned drilling route. It’s part of the preparation before work starts understanding what’s below the surface and helps us plan, avoid existing pipes and cables.
There’s a process behind the closure too. Planned closures need council authorisation, with notices and signs setting out the restrictions and as you can imagine, these can cause set backs to when the work starts.
