A beautiful older property deserves a finish that complements its original features.

This property in Titchfield underwent an exterior painting and repairs package to its original timber sash windows. The work focused on preparing the existing timber properly, addressing areas requiring repair and applying a high-quality paint finish to provide long-term protection against the elements.

Our specialist painting service includes thorough preparation, filling and sanding where required, followed by the appropriate primer, undercoat and topcoat system. Proper preparation is essential when working with traditional timber, helping create a durable finish while keeping the original character of the windows intact.

Even smaller and more unusual windows deserve the same level of care and attention.

This beautiful circular window in Marlborough was carefully restored with the existing glass removed and a new 12mm slim double glazing unit routed into the timber. The window was then fully prepared before receiving interior and exterior painting to complete the restoration.

Slim double glazing can be a great way to improve the performance of traditional windows while retaining their original character and unusual architectural details.

How do you determine whether a timber window is beyond repair? 🪟

Our first priority is always to restore and preserve original timber wherever possible, but replacement becomes the right choice when safety, stability, or long-term value are at risk.

Here’s how we evaluate each window during an inspection:

Structural Integrity: Checking if key load-bearing points, joints, or outer boxes have moved, bowed, or lost their strength.

Hardware & Weight Support: Ensuring the surrounding timber is sound enough to hold glass, weights, and hinges securely.

Component Degradation: Looking at whether multiple critical elements (cills, stiles, rails) have failed together.

Cost vs. Longevity: Advising whether extensive repairs will give you lasting performance, or if a bespoke replacement is the smarter investment.

One of the questions we're asked most often is how long a timber window restoration will take. The honest answer is that it depends on the condition of the windows and the type of work required. Some windows may only need minor repairs and repainting, while others require more extensive refurbishment, draught proofing, glazing upgrades, or timber repairs. Every project begins with a detailed survey so we can assess exactly what's needed and provide a realistic timescale.

Throughout the restoration, our focus is always on preserving as much of the original timber as possible while improving the window's performance and appearance. We work carefully and efficiently to achieve a long-lasting result without compromising on quality. Whether it's a single window or a larger phased project, our experienced team will guide you through the process from start to finish, ensuring your windows are restored to the highest standard.

Even smaller windows deserve the same level of care and attention as larger restoration projects. On this bathroom casement window in Twyford, we carried out repairs, fitted new hinges and ironmongery, and completed full preparation before painting both the interior and exterior.

By restoring the original timber rather than replacing it, we're able to improve the window's operation, enhance its appearance, and provide long-lasting protection against the elements. It's these smaller details that help preserve the overall character of a period property.

A well-maintained timber door not only improves the appearance of a property but also provides better security, insulation, and protection from the weather. This refurbishment project in Houghton involved carefully restoring the existing door while improving how it operates and extending its lifespan.

The work included replacing worn hardware where required, fitting draught proofing, carrying out minor timber repairs, preparing every surface, and applying our specialist German Remmers paint system. The result is a beautifully restored entrance door that's protected against the elements while retaining its original character and charm.

This beautiful sash window in Melbury Bubb was restored using our full refurbishment process before being finished in the popular Green Smoke colour. Alongside the cosmetic improvements, we carefully overhauled the internal workings of the window to ensure it operated smoothly once again.

The refurbishment included removing and reinstalling the sashes, fitting new ropes and pulleys, installing draught-proofing beads, and replacing hardware where required. Combined with specialist preparation and painting, the finished result preserves the traditional character of the window while significantly improving its performance, efficiency, and longevity.
