🚨 An operation is running in South Oxhey throughout the summer to help tackle criminal and anti-social behaviour involving powered two-wheelers (PTWs), such as e-bikes and motorbikes.
Op Cloze will also target those involved in thefts of PTWs in the area, building on the success of a previous operation last year.
Anti-social use of PTWs impacts the community by making people feel unsafe and puts members of the public at risk of being seriously, or even fatally injured, as well as risking the safety of the riders or their passengers. It also has financial impacts on legitimate owners.
🗣️ PC James, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “If you’re caught riding an illegal e-bike it will be seized. If you’re seen riding any other vehicle in an anti-social manner, police can issue a written ‘section 59’ warning under the Police Reform Act 2002. If you are caught again within the next 12 months, police have powers to seize your vehicle and riders can also be reported for traffic offences.
“We’re doing all we can to locate and seize these vehicles and have already removed several illegal e-bikes and mopeds from the street. But, while we could be anywhere, we can’t be everywhere, so we’re asking the public to assist us. Information from you is key to helping us gather the evidence we need to take action.”
You can help by providing the following:
• Photos and videos of vehicles and riders - but ONLY if it is safe to take them.
• Specific times and locations that the vehicles have been seen, to enable patrols to be directed accordingly.
• Descriptions of riders and helmets - if they are wearing one.
• Descriptions of bikes - colour, power method etc.
• Details of where bikes are being kept.

🗣️ PC James continued: “Tackling this issue has been made a local policing priority. We’ll be conducting patrols and running days of action to try and seize these vehicles so make sure you know the law!
“If you or someone you know rides an e-Bike, check whether it meets legal requirements under the Government’s EAPC scheme. If your e-Bike doesn't meet EAPC definitions, then it must be entirely road legal.”
