If you've got a textured Artex ceiling and you want a smooth, modern finish, you've got a few options.
If the texture isn't too deep and it's well bonded, you can skim straight over it. A couple of coats of plaster will smooth it right out.
For heavier patterns, the better option is to overboard with new plasterboard and then skim. This gives you a completely fresh, flat ceiling without the hassle of trying to work over a deep texture.
Full removal is possible too but be careful. If your property was built or decorated before 2000, the Artex could contain asbestos. Always get it tested before anyone starts scraping. It's not worth the risk.
The safest and most popular option is overboarding. It avoids the removal issue altogether and gives you a perfect result.
