Some recent jobs where rats have gained access to properties via different routes. Rats are always looking for weak points on buildings to gain access and once in the cavity walls they can move around quite easily around the building. Remember rats can squeeze through a gap roughly the size of a 10 pence piece or 15/25 mm

Hornet nests really are a work of art. It’s a pity this one had set up home in someone’s shed and had to be removed. 80% of wasp & 90% of hornet nests are built away from areas where they can cause problems and both are an important part of the natural world.

A nice picture of a wasp nest that shows the inside and the cells containing the queen and larvae. Unfortunately this was attached to a shed door and when the client opened it he broke the nest apart and was stung quite bad.

Doing some squirrel proofing today as they were gaining access to the roof space and chewing through the ceiling into the property. Also rescued a hornet which a lady had found in her house so I put it in the grass as it was causing no harm.

This time of year I get lots of calls from people who think they have wasps. But most of the time it’s these harmless little guys. The red mason bee. They become very active on warm sunny days especially on sunny side facing properties.
They will only be active for a few weeks then will disappear, so don’t worry as they are great pollinators. Wasps will start to become more active around the first week or two in June.

As the weather gets colder rats are looking to enter homes where it offers warmth in the winter months. Any excess points are easily exploited by them to gain entry. Here the rats have entered via a broken tumble dryer vent and caused a lot of damage to the wiring of the fridge freezer and distress to the home owner.

A couple of large hornet nest dealt with recently. They really are impressive works of art. 80% of nests are outside and don’t cause any problems but these were causing problems for the owners of the properties so had to be dealt with.

A bad case of clothes moth damage to a carpet at a property today. The larvae will feed on the natural fibres then eventually turn into moths. Any natural fibre material like carpets, clothes teddy’s will be on there munching list!

Not what you want to be sharing your shower with! It’s still amazingly how they built the nest and incorporated the shower curtain into the nest.
