Lawrence Hill Step-Free Access project is making a busy suburban Bristol station accessible for users with mobility challenges. 🦽

The project, funded by West of England Mayoral Combined Authority England Combined Authority, typifies the accessibility investments being made by many combined authorities in regional rail infrastructure.

Like many combined authority and step-free access projects Lawrence Hill demands that Octavius, the design/build contractor, integrate and align the needs of multiple influential stakeholders with the project’s goals.

Leaving a lasting legacy in Weston-super-Mare 🌱

At Octavius, creating a positive legacy is at the heart of our work. As part of our Winterstoke Road Bridge project, we recently delivered our annual Leaving a Legacy initiative, this time in the Bournville neighbourhood of Weston-super-Mare, focused on creating lasting benefits for the local community beyond the construction works.

Over four weeks, alongside 15 partners we worked in partnership with Alliance Homes, the For All Healthy Living Centre and Windwhistle Primary School to rejuvenate community spaces, enhance allotments and improve school gardens across the Bournville area, creating lasting benefits for local residents and pupils.

The social value we've delivered:

✔️ 85 volunteers from Octavius, our partners and supply chain contributed to the project

✔️ 990 volunteering hours delivered over four weeks

✔️ £18,000 in donations from supporting organisations

✔️ £40,000 of social value added to the community

✔️ Lasting improvements to the For All Healthy Living Centre playground, Great Rhyne Garden Allotments, Coleridge Road allotments and local school gardens.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible. We’re proud to have supported the Bournville community and continue to support the local area as we progress with the Winterstoke Road Bridge project.

The Dartmoor Line’s newest station, Okehampton Interchange, has begun serving passengers. 🚆

Octavius delivered this scheme as design and build Principal Contractor through Network Rail’s CP7 Wales and Western Capital Delivery framework.

Our team moved from design development to entry into service in less than two years, making Okehampton one of the quickest new stations to be constructed and commissioned under Network Rail’s Project SPEED approach.

The project demonstrates what can be achieved when an Intelligent Client model, early contractor involvement and a genuinely integrated team are aligned around clear outcomes, efficient decision-making and value for money.

The new station improves connections between West Devon, Torridge and North Cornwall with Exeter and beyond. Okehampton Interchange is expected to support 164,000 passenger journeys in its first 12 months, strengthening local access to jobs, education, healthcare and wider opportunities.

We're proud to have completed Phase 1 of A1331 link road for Essex County Council

First phase of new A1331 Link Road has completed!

A brand new stretch of dual carriageway, complete with a new roundabout and high quality walking and cycling routes, is now in use. This first mile of road is a key piece of infrastructure that will help unlock up to 7,750 new homes and ensure growth in the area is supported from day one.

Funded by Homes England and delivered by Octavius Infrastructure, the 18 month project also includes a huge landscaping effort, more than 40,000 trees and shrubs planted to create a greener, more sustainable corridor.

Cllr Russell Quirk, Deputy Leader of Essex County Council, said:

"This scheme demonstrates our commitment to assuring high-quality infrastructure is in place to support future homes, jobs and community facilities.

"I would like to thank Essex residents for their patience during construction, and for their trust that we will deliver infrastructure ahead of homes being built – so as to ensure Essex residents get real benefits from growth."

Cllr Mark Webster, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Infrastructure, added: "Over the coming months we will be continuing to work with Homes England, local partners and the developer to bring forward Phase Two, ensuring the important link to the A120 and the wider strategic road network is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

Wentbridge Viaduct, a grade II listed structure, carries more than 86,000 vehicles per day on the A1T across the Went Valley. The project to refurbish the carriageway and ensure structural integrity on this vital piece of infrastructure encountered significant changes and variations.

As National Highways principal contractor, under the Scheme Delivery Framework, Octavius successfully overcame these challenges, giving the iconic structure a new lease of life.
