A fully stamped Howard & Sons Bridgewater armchair — one of the most desirable models ever produced by the renowned English maker.

Highly sought after for its exceptional comfort and elegant proportions, this example features the celebrated “siège de duvet” back, designed to offer the luxurious softness and support that Howard & Sons chairs are famous for.

This chair has been meticulously restored from the frame up. The legs have been carefully polished, and it has been traditionally upholstered throughout using time-honoured techniques, faithful to the original craftsmanship. Only the finest natural materials have been used, and it has been finished in a Howard & Sons cotton ticking, matching the original ticking discovered beneath the previous upholstery.

A superb and investment-worthy example of classic English furniture.

Traditional upholstery dates back to the late 17c and still prevalent in the furniture trade today. Not only is the horsehair able to be re carded and reused, all materials are biodegradable and it will far outlast the life of a foam alternative. It is labour intensive and is a skill that takes an upholsterer years to hone that can only be done on the job, knowing how much hair to stuff and how tight to tack the scrim to stitch the correct profile edge roll for the period of furniture you are working on.

A bespoke traditionally upholstered armchair built to last generations incorporating a 'siege de duvet' back, a pocketed feather and down pad stitched on top of a softly sprung foundation. Originally designed by Howard and Sons during the 19th century and provides unrivalled comfort to this day.

Hand made to order, raised on hand turned walnut legs, solid beech wood frame, traditionally upholstered with down filled cushions over hand tied coil springs, using only the finest materials throughout.

This Victorian Chesterfield came in a very poor state, having been started by another upholsterer. The legs had been sawn off, very poor frame repairs, broken rails, perished webbing, perished spring canvas and had many layers of unnecessary felt. It has now been stripped back to the frame, the joints knocked apart and replacement rails where necessary. Hand turned front walnut legs and walnut splayed legs to the rear, traditionally upholstered throughout.
