Then & Now... A Little Piece of Redditch's Story

Looking at this fantastic photo of Church Green East, it's hard not to wonder what life was like when it was taken.

The street is full of people going about their day. Children stand outside the shops, a cyclist rides past, and local businesses are open for trade, just as they are today.

More than a century has passed since this photograph was taken, but many of these buildings are still standing, each with its own story to tell.

Over the years they've seen businesses come and go, watched the town grow, and adapted with the times. Today, Church Green East is still home to a wide range of independent businesses and professional services, continuing to play an important part in everyday life in Redditch.

We're proud to be spending the day in one of these historic buildings, installing a complete security system, including:

We've all changed our routines because of this heatwave.

Windows stay open.

Doors get left unlocked while you're in the garden.

The back gate never gets bolted because you're "only popping back in."

🏠 Something to think about

Last year, around 4,500 burglaries were recorded across Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

That is not about panic or headlines.
It is about patterns.

Most burglaries are not elaborate.
They happen because something appears easy.
Unnoticed.
Low risk.

One thing consistently shows up in the data and in offender interviews.
Homes with visible alarm systems are less likely to be targeted.

It does not mean burglary never happens.
It means the risk is lower.

Burglars compare what they can see from the outside.
If something looks like it will draw attention, slow them down, or create hassle, they are more likely to move on.

Most people only think about security after something has happened.
The quieter question is whether small, visible measures make a difference before that point.
