When a customer came to us with an access problem this week, we knew a quick turnaround was extremely important to them. From an image of their current platform with a sketch of what they were looking for, to a fully fabricated stepover delivered to them in just a few days. With a new durable solution that will not rot, rust, or corrode, safe access across these cables is no longer an issue.

A great project to be involved with, recently completed at a railway station in Suffolk. From the photos, you can see the finished pedestrian access ramp, which was designed, fabricated and installed by the Elemy team.

The ramp surface has been constructed using gritted solid top GRP panels, providing an excellent anti slip finish whilst also being heel proof and wheel proof, making it ideal for public access applications with high pedestrian traffic. We also supplied and installed the handrailing and GRP infill mesh which helps to prevent litter and debris collecting beneath the structure

Projects like this demonstrate the versatility of GRP for public infrastructure. Lightweight, corrosion resistant and low maintenance, it offers a durable long term solution for environments that need to perform reliably year after year.

Further progress on another GRP access structure installation at a Scottish solar farm.

These photos show the GRP support structure now in place, with the grating and handrails still to be installed.

Yesterday, our Managing Director Richard Brine had the pleasure of attending the STEM Challenge Sessions at Freebrough Academy in Brotton on behalf of Elemy Ltd.

Supporting young people as they explore careers in STEM is something we’re passionate about, and it was fantastic to see the students engaging with real world challenges and being able to offer some insight into our industry.

A busy start to May already as we despatch over 1400 panels of fabricated steel grating. All the grating has been cut to client drawings, fully bound and galvanised with welded tab plates for ease of installation.

We’ve been having more and more conversations with customers lately about GRP grating vs traditional steel, and it’s clear there’s a growing awareness of alternative options.

GRP offers a number of practical advantages:

- It won’t corrode, making it ideal for harsh or exposed environments
- It’s significantly lighter than steel, which makes handling and installation easier
- It provides excellent slip resistance
- It requires very little ongoing maintenance
- And it can often be more cost effective over the full life of a project

There are also wider market factors at play. Ongoing tensions in the Middle East and the UK government’s evolving steel strategy are both expected to have an impact on steel availability and pricing, leading many to explore materials like GRP earlier in the process.

Another GRP access ramp starting to take shape.

The first two images show the supporting structure, built entirely from GRP - something that often surprises people who expect to see traditional steelwork. The final image shows the ramp with anti-slip solid top grating fitted, creating a safe and durable walking surface.

You’ll also notice the yellow flooring sections, which are used to clearly highlight changes in level and improve visibility underfoot - an important safety feature for pedestrian access. The next step is the DDA compliant handrail and then site installation!
