The last few months have certainly tested me — both personally and in business.

Running a construction company is never straightforward, but recently it feels like everything has come at once.

We’ve dealt with challenging projects, programme pressures, subcontractors letting us down, payment disputes, cashflow pressures, vehicles being damaged, materials and trades not arriving when promised, and plenty of other problems behind the scenes that people simply don’t see.

There have been days where you genuinely wonder why you put yourself through it.

But one thing I’ve always believed is that you find out what you’re made of when things aren’t going your way.

We haven’t stopped.

We’ve brought new trades in when others have let us down.
We’ve worked through problems rather than walking away from them.
We’ve continued delivering for our clients.
And we’ve kept pushing the business forward.

Right now, we’re moving at a great pace. Jobs are progressing, trades are working together, and we’re starting to see the results of a huge amount of effort behind the scenes.

There are definitely lessons I’ll take from this period — particularly around who we work with, how we manage projects and protecting the business as we continue to grow.

I’m incredibly grateful to the people who have stood by us, worked hard and helped keep things moving when it would have been much easier to throw the towel in.

Building a business isn’t just about posting the successful projects and finished photographs.

Sometimes it’s about getting knocked backwards, sorting the problems out and moving forward again stronger than before.

Plenty still to do, but I’m excited about where we’re heading.

🔨 Progress continuing nicely at Liston Court, Marlow with the roof now starting to become weather tight.

Felt and battens are going on, dormers are taking shape, and the roof structure is really starting to show the finished form of the build. Always a good milestone to hit on any project as it starts moving from structure to enclosure. 🏗️🏠

Massive credit to the team pushing through the heat and keeping the programme moving forward. ☀️

As for the roofers not wearing their hi-vis… with all the will in the world, we still couldn’t get them to put them on for the photos 😂👷‍♂️

Arch Building – From Formers to Finished Detail

There’s something about a well-built brick arch that never gets old 👌

On this project at Liston Court, every arch you see started with a set of bespoke timber formers, carefully set out to achieve the exact radii and profiles required — no two the same 🔨

These are bonded brick arches with a 665mm soffit, giving them real depth and presence across the elevation — not just a feature, but a proper statement 💪

From there, it’s all about precision:
• Setting out each course accurately 📐
• Maintaining consistent joint sizes throughout the curve
• Cutting and laying each brick to follow the line perfectly
• Keeping the bond running true through the arch

Each arch is built brick on edge over the formers, fully supported while curing — no shortcuts, just time, care, and proper workmanship ⏳

Once the formers are struck, that’s the moment of truth… and when it’s done right, the result speaks for itself 👀

A bonded arch like this isn’t just about looks — it’s a combination of craftsmanship, structural understanding, and attention to detail 🧱

The moment structural steel goes in… a project suddenly feels real.

This week on site we reached another key milestone.

Our team have been constructing the rear structural brick piers, which will carry the loads from the steelwork and support the structure moving forward.

It’s the type of work that most people will never see once the building is finished — but it’s one of the most important parts of the build. Accuracy, levels and proper bonding are everything at this stage.

With the structural steels now installed, the building is really starting to take shape and you can begin to visualise the finished spaces.

Next stage on the programme:

• Manufacture the arch formers for the rear openings
• Begin constructing the brick arches
• Continue progressing the structural brickwork

Massive credit to the lads on site — great workmanship and attention to detail as always 👏

Looking forward to showing the next stage as the arches start to go in.
