Thinking about extending, converting your loft or renovating your home? One of the first things to establish is whether you actually need planning permission.

Some projects can fall under Permitted Development Rights, meaning you may be able to carry out certain work without a full planning application. But there are limits from the size of an extension to roof height, materials and how much of your property you’re building on.

And here’s an important one... Planning Permission and Building Regulations are not the same thing. Even if you don’t need planning permission, your project may still need to meet Building Regulations.
