In an office, a fire door rarely fails because of one big mistake - it's usually a decision nobody thought was theirs to make.

In multi-tenant buildings, it's often unclear whether that responsibility sits with the landlord, the tenant, or whoever project-managed the last fit-out, which means changes can go unnoticed for years.

This bespoke cottage door was designed to match the character of the property and sit comfortably alongside its neighbours in this Lancashire village.

It's a good example of what "bespoke" actually means in practice: traditional tongue and groove construction, classic black ironmongery chosen to suit the cottage's period features, proportions worked out specifically for this opening rather than a standard size, and materials chosen to cope with Lancashire's weather.

This all comes from someone measuring the actual opening, understanding the property, and making decisions accordingly, which is exactly why bespoke joinery holds up, and holds its character, in a w ay an off-the-shelf door can't.

Term's back underway, and it's a great time to share one of our favourite school transformations.

Before: a cramped, cluttered resource room that made it hard for staff to find or reach what they needed.

After: fresh paint, new flooring, and properly reorganised storage have turned it into a bright, easy-to-use space.

Security and aesthetics came together in this project for a local high school reception area.

We were tasked with altering the main reception hatch to improve security while keeping a welcoming feel. Ash hardwood was used throughout, lacquered in our workshop before installation for a flawless finish, and finished with chrome hardware.

The result: a secure, inviting entrance point built to serve the school for years to come.
