What NOT to put down your drains - a reminder from a very smelly job!

Our engineer Fay was called out to clear a badly blocked sewer line outside a row of bungalows. What did we find inside? A build-up of grease and fat, plus a mass of unopened sanitary products. Here's your reminder on what should never go down the sink or toilet:

❌ Cooking fat, oil, and grease - let it cool and bin it, don't pour it away
❌ Sanitary products, including tampons and wipes - even "flushable" ones
❌ Cotton buds, cotton wool, and make-up wipes
❌ Nappies and baby wipes
❌ Food scraps and coffee grounds
❌ Paint, chemicals, or cleaning products

✅ Toilets should only ever be used for human waste and toilet paper
✅ Let fat cool, scrape it into the bin, or use a container
✅ Sanitary and hygiene products go straight in the bin, wrapped

This job needed electro mechanical cleaning and high-pressure jetting just to get the line moving again - and once cleared, we found the pipework itself had been damaged by the build-up, needing further repair. All avoidable! 🚱

10 days, 200+ metres of gutter, and a LOT of footballs...⚽

Our team recently completed a major gutter clearance project across two large school sites - a job that took several engineers a total of 10 days to complete properly!

Using a combination of sky vac, MEWP, and high-pressure water jetting, the team worked their way across the rooflines clearing over 200 metres of guttering and 20 downpipes. Every gully was flow tested and checked with CCTV to confirm everything was running clear.

And the debris? Let's just say school roofs collect more than leaves! The team removed mass amounts of moss, silt, and vegetation, along with a huge haul of footballs, bottles, balls, sticks - even a stray school uniform!

Regular gutter clearance like this helps prevent water damage, blockages, and bigger repair bills down the line. 🏫💧

Our engineer Louis was called out to a custody cell after the toilet became blocked and was draining very slowly.

Using CCTV, Louis identified the culprit: magazines and microwave meal trays had been pushed into the line, causing a solid blockage. Rather than a straightforward clear, this one required accessing the toilet's rear access cap to physically remove the foreign objects from the pipework.

Once cleared, a follow-up CCTV inspection confirmed the line was clean, and multiple flush tests showed everything flowing freely again.

Not every blockage is grease and wipes - sometimes it's exactly what someone's decided to flush! 😅

Our engineer Matt attended a property after a shower had been draining slowly and starting to flood into the hallway.

The shower trap was found blocked with a build-up of hair, causing the slow drainage. The trap was removed, cleared, and reinstated. Flow tested and running freely.

Dye testing and a CCTV inspection were also carried out on the external drainage system, tracing the flow to the rear manholes. This identified further issues, including root intrusion and pipework displacement, which have been flagged for follow-up repair work.

A blockage isn't always as simple as it first looks - a full system check can catch problems before they escalate. ✅

⚡ Pump station works completed at a local school!

The job involved replacing all 4 float switches, fitting a new junction box, and installing 3 new hanger brackets across two chambers to keep everything securely in place. The team also safely locked off and tagged out the pump panel before getting to work - safety first!

To finish things off, 5 LED bulbs were replaced in the control panel indicators (a mix of green, orange, and red) so staff can easily read the system status at a glance.

Once everything was fitted, the whole system was tested to make sure it was working correctly and left running in auto. ✅

🌳 Root removal AND pipe repair!

Our engineers Dooey and Martin headed out to a property in Warminster to tackle a serious root intrusion downstream of a manhole in the garden.

Using a Maxi Miller - a clever piece of kit with spinning chains designed to cut through even the toughest root masses - the team ground away at the roots until the line was completely clear.

But the job didn't stop there. Once the roots were out of the way, CCTV inspection revealed the pipework itself was defective underneath - likely weakened by the very roots that had been growing through it. Rather than leave the job half done, the team installed further lining (LSR) to cover and repair the damaged pipe, fully restoring its structure.

Everything was then checked again with CCTV and flow tested to confirm it was all running freely - job done properly, start to finish. ✅

Tin can vs. drainage system... guess who won? 🧐

Our engineers headed back out to a Bristol property to sort not one, but TWO issues in a single visit - talk about efficient!

First up: three inspection chamber covers were sticking up out of the ground at the front of the property, creating a nasty trip hazard for anyone walking past. Our team dug in, trimmed each chamber down, and got those covers sitting flush and level again. Job one, done. ✅

But we weren't finished there. While on site, the team discovered something lurking upstream in the pipework - an old tin can causing a blockage! 🥫 High-pressure water jetting was carried out - the can was removed, the lines were cleared, and everything was re-surveyed to make sure it was flowing perfectly again.

Two problems. One visit. Zero fuss. That's how we like to work. 🙌

🚛💧 Planned maintenance day at one of our commercial sites!

As part of a scheduled visit, our team Ethan and Ross headed out to carry out routine tanker emptying of the silt trap and gullies around a vehicle wash area.

On arrival, the lorry wash was found full of mud, silt, and built-up debris. Using tanker hoses alongside high-pressure water jetting, the team fully washed down and cleared the wash bay, removing a total of 2,000 gallons of waste from site. 🧹

Regular PPM (pre-planned preventative maintenance) visits like this one are key to keeping vehicle wash systems running smoothly and preventing bigger blockages down the line.

🔧 Manhole replacement job complete in Bristol!

Following an inspection, further works were approved to replace a manhole cover and frame in the kitchen of a property in Bristol.

The old, worn frame and cover were carefully broken out and a brand new one installed, finished off with concrete bedding to keep it solid for years to come. Harley and Sheldon then cleaned down the whole area, leaving the kitchen spotless and safe. 🧹
