🏠 Another Plastering Job Completed – Landing & Stairwell Transformation! πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ

A recent job completed by Cassidy Construction, giving this upstairs landing and stairwell a fresh new finish, ready for decorating! πŸ”¨

The existing walls and ceilings needed some attention, so we carried out the following work:

βœ… Overboarded the landing ceiling with new plasterboard.

βœ… Stripped back the two external walls to the blockwork, before dot and dabbing new plasterboards to create a fresh, even surface.

βœ… Taped and prepared all plasterboard joints ready for plastering.

βœ… Fully skimmed the upstairs landing walls and ceiling.

βœ… Skimmed the stairwell wall to bring everything together with a smooth, consistent finish.

With the plastering now complete, the landing and stairwell are looking much fresher and are ready for the next stage of the transformation once fully dried! πŸ‘Œ

πŸ“Έ Take a look at the progress photos, from the preparation stages through to the freshly plastered finish!

Whether it's a single wall, a full room or a complete renovation, Cassidy Construction can help with your next project.

🏠 Bay Window Ceiling – Freshly Skimmed

A nice plastering job completed today after being brought in by a joiner I regularly work alongside.

All the preparation work had already been completed by the joiner, leaving the bay window ceiling ready for me to come in and apply the finishing skim.

With the different angles around the bay, it was all finished off neatly and left smooth and ready for decorating once fully dried. πŸ‘Œ

Another good example of working alongside other local trades to get the job completed to a high standard.

🏠 Chimney Breast Removal & Full Room Transformation πŸ”¨

Another big transformation completed by Cassidy Construction, with this room taken right back and completely refreshed from top to bottom.

πŸ”¨ Chimney breast removal – the chimney breast was removed through the upstairs bedroom, with the remaining chimney safely supported using gallows brackets.

πŸ”₯ Upstairs making good – a new timber stud frame was constructed around the supports, boarded using Fireline plasterboard, replastered and the existing skirting boards refitted, leaving everything looking like the chimney had never been touched.

🏠 Downstairs ceiling – the existing ceiling was counter-battened and re-boarded, with Fireline board installed beneath the chimney and gallows bracket area before being fully plastered.

🧱 Walls – the former chimney wall was re-boarded using the dot-and-dab method before all the walls were plastered, giving the room a fresh, smooth finish ready for decorating.

⚑ Electrics & lighting – new double sockets were installed along with concealed speaker cabling ready for the customer's new entertainment system. The existing centre ceiling rose was also removed and replaced with 4 new LED downlights, giving the room a cleaner, more modern finish.

πŸ› οΈ Floor preparation – the floor was patched where the chimney breast had previously stood, incorporating a Visqueen membrane beneath the repair to help prevent moisture coming through. The complete floor was then self-levelled to provide a smooth and even base.

πŸ’§ Once prepared and sufficiently dried, the floor received 2 coats of DPM ready for the new flooring.

πŸͺ΅ The finishing touch – glue-down oak flooring was installed in a herringbone pattern, followed by new skirting boards throughout and a new set of architraves.

A lot of work and different stages went into this one, but it's made a huge difference to the room, and the herringbone oak flooring really finishes the transformation off. πŸ‘Œ

Now it's over to the customer's decorator for the final touches. 🎨

πŸ“Έ Keep an eye out for the fully decorated finished photos coming next week!

🏠 Chimney Breast Removal & Room Transformation

Another structural alteration completed by Cassidy Construction πŸ”¨

The customer wanted to remove the existing chimney breast to create a much cleaner, more usable wall and open up the feel of the room.

The works involved carefully removing the chimney breast and installing a new structural steel beam, complete with a 6mm steel plate above to close off the remaining chimney flue.

There were also a few services to deal with along the way. The existing gas fire was removed and the gas pipe running down the side of the chimney breast was rerouted by the plumber into a more suitable position.

⚑ The electrician then altered the electrics ready for the customer's new TV setup, including:

Relocating the existing double socket from the chimney cheek to the centre of the new wall

Adding a second socket at TV height

Installing additional connection points and concealed conduit for HDMI/TV cables, keeping everything hidden once the TV is fitted

Once the structural work was complete, the steel was framed out in timber and clad with fire-rated plasterboard to form the new bulkhead.

πŸ’‘ As the job progressed, we decided to do away with the existing wall lights and added two spotlights into the new bulkhead, positioned either side of where the customer's TV will eventually sit.

Everything was then plastered to leave a smooth finish, the flooring made good where the chimney breast had previously stood, and new skirting board fitted to finish the room off neatly.

A big change from the original fireplace and chimney breast, leaving the customer with a much cleaner and more modern space ready for decorating and the new TV setup. πŸ‘Œ

🏠 Plastering Works – Kitchen & Extension

Another plastering job completed, bringing the existing part of this kitchen together with the new extension to create one smooth, seamless finish.

The existing wall was boarded out and blended into the new extension wall, removing the transition between the old and new areas. The new extension ceiling was fully skimmed, with the existing ceiling overskimmed to match, giving one continuous finish throughout the whole space, including carefully finishing the reveals around the new roof lantern, ready for decorating.

Elsewhere on the job, I boarded and skimmed the pipe box and bonded and skimmed a patch beneath the stairs to make good the previous opening.

A fair bit of preparation and blending involved on this one, but it's now all tied together and ready for the next stage. πŸ‘Œ

Works included:

Boarding and blending existing walls into the new extension

Skimming the new extension ceiling

Overskimming the existing ceiling for a seamless finish

Plastering the roof lantern reveals

Boarding and skimming pipe boxing

Bonding and skimming the patch beneath the stairs

🧱 Garden Wall, Brickwork & Drainage Repairs

A good mix of repair work completed on this property, getting a number of areas sorted and back into good condition.

The works included repairs and repointing to the existing garden walls, with sections rebuilt where required and the coping stones removed and securely relaid.

A second garden wall also received some attention, with loose coping stones lifted, cleaned off and rebedded.

Around 15 damaged bricks with blown faces were carefully cut out of the house brickwork and replaced with new bricks, helping to tidy up the appearance and prevent further deterioration.

We also uncovered an issue with the drainage, where a foul drain had incorrectly been connected into the surface water system. The ground was opened up, new drainage installed and the foul waste correctly diverted and connected into the foul system before everything was made good again.

A varied job with plenty involved, but another one ticked off! πŸ‘ŒπŸ§±

πŸ”¨ Utility Room Transformation πŸ”¨

Another job completed, getting this space ready to become a new downstairs bathroom.

We removed the existing utility room units before building a new timber stud wall complete with a pocket door, making the most of the available space without a traditional door swinging into the room.

Works included:

Removal of the existing utility units

New stud wall and pocket door installed

New wall plasterboarded and skimmed

Skirting boards fitted to finish

New pipe boxing formed in the garage and plastered

Existing hole in the garage wall patched and plastered

One of the original wall cupboards refitted in the garage to provide some handy extra storage

That’s our part complete and now over to the customer’s plumber to install the new downstairs bathroom suite. 🚿🚽

A good example of how an existing space can be altered to make it much more useful without the need for an extension.

🧱 New Extension Project Underway 🏑

It's been a productive start to another extension project for Cassidy Construction.

So far we've: βœ… Completed the foundations and foundation brickwork. βœ… Built the brickwork up to DPC level. βœ… Installed one of the structural steel legs ready for the major structural alterations. βœ… Brought in the stone ready for the new floor build-up.

The next major stage will be the removal of the entire rear of the existing property, creating a large open-plan space ready for the new extension. Once the stone has been compacted, the site will be ready for the concrete floor slab early next week before we continue building the masonry.

It's always exciting to see a project take shape from the ground up, and we're looking forward to sharing the progress as the build develops.
