Our operations also include gas, network intelligence, renovations and repairs of drains and sewers (no dig and UV Lining), high pressure water jetting , CCTV, underground radar and high power vacuum trucks, including recyclers.

Today we’re celebrating International Women’s Day and recognising the amazing women who have worked and continue to work with Sapphire Utility Solutions 👏👩

Today we’re spotlighting Amber Kirkby, who has been part of Sapphire for many years and now leads an all-women team for Lanes.

Amber has helped drive positive change during her time with Sapphire, including introducing a driver rewards scheme that contributed to winning Excellence in Driver Engagement at the Samsara Connected Operations Awards.

Her advice to women building their careers:

"Don’t be afraid to speak up, ask questions, and take opportunities when they come."

Always great to recognise the hard work of our team on site 👷‍♂️👏

The Sapphire crew recently received fantastic feedback while working on the A338 Downton Rd project in Salisbury.

During a site visit, an Associate Director from AtkinsRéalis praised the team’s planning, site setup and safety standards.

Supervised by Matt Pryce-Jones, the works were recognised for the strong traffic management, PPE standards and our RAMS & site induction process, with our duplicate RAMS sheet described as “one of the best I've seen.”

🚧 Rising Main Project Delivered in Record Time 🚧

Our Sapphire team, alongside G&V Gallagher, has successfully delivered a rising main replacement project at Keele 💪

✔ Completed ahead of programme
✔ Delivered within budget
✔ Seamless collaboration throughout

Working closely with United Utilities, Severn Trent, Staffordshire Highways and Keele Services, strong communication and teamwork were key to making this scheme a success 🤝

Sapphire’s Assistant Project Manager, Nicole McCracken, said:

“From design to completion the scheme ran smoothly, within budget and exceeded programme… Fantastic collaboration was key to the success of the project.”

🌱 Last week, eight members of the Sapphire team volunteered with Lancashire Wildlife Trust to support their Christmas tree dune restoration event.

🎄 Back in January, we collected Christmas trees from our offices to be donated to the initiative. These recycled trees help stabilise coastal sand dunes a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) that provides vital habitats for wildlife and acts as a natural sea defence for local communities.

It’s a simple idea with a big impact: supporting biodiversity, protecting the coastline, and giving Christmas trees a second life.

Proud of everyone who gave their time to be part of such a positive environmental project.💙

We recently held a team raffle, with the winner not only taking home a luxury hamper but also choosing a charity to receive all the money raised.

Congratulations to Susan Worley from reception, who picked the British Heart Foundation as her chosen charity. Thanks to everyone who took part, we raised £110 for a brilliant cause 👏

🚛 The Sapphire fleet keeps growing 💪

Our Plant & Transport operation is now approaching 980 vehicles across the UK, and we’ve just added another PMMA truck — taking our specialist PMMA fleet to 9 units 🔧

Alongside this, we’ve welcomed:
🚚 5 CityFlex units
♻️ 2 new recyclers

Since launching PMMA capability in 2023, this technology has transformed how we deliver manhole reinstatements, especially on our United Utilities work. Faster installs, longer-lasting results, and improved productivity on site 👷‍♂️

A decade of growth in Plant & Transport 🚛

Tony Chadwick has been part of Sapphire Utility Solutions for 10 years and has seen first hand just how much the business and our Plant & Transport operation have evolved.

When Tony joined Sapphire, the fleet stood at around 75 vehicles. Today, it has grown to approximately 980, with Tony now leading the function as Head of Plant & Transport and overseeing the new workshop at Leyland.

Scaling at this pace hasn’t been without its challenges he says, but the team has grown and strengthened alongside the fleet. This has been supported by improved reporting, greater visibility across fleet and plant, and a continued focus on doing things the right way.

For Tony, success comes down to two things compliance and availability ✅. Keeping the fleet safe, compliant and out on site is critical to supporting delivery across the business. From regular stand downs and walkaround checks 🔍 to addressing defects quickly 🔧, the Plant & Transport team plays a vital role in safety, efficiency and day to day operations.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Tony is proud of how both the fleet and the team have grown alongside Sapphire. With the business now part of the Lanes Group and continuing to deliver major mobilisations 🚀, it’s the continued growth and the role Plant & Transport plays in supporting it that excites him most.

Proud to deliver a successful innovation trial at United Utilities’ Langdale WwTW 💧

Working with partners, Sapphire led a six-month trial of the Mobile Organic Biofilm (MOB) Process, demonstrating increased treatment capacity, excellent effluent quality and reliable performance under live conditions.

A great example of collaboration and innovation shaping the future of wastewater treatment.

Thank you to everyone at our Leyland office who took part in Christmas Jumper Day and for bringing so much festive spirit (and sparkle!) into the workplace!

From classic knits to bold statement jumpers, the creativity and Christmas cheer were brilliant to see. We’ve pulled together some of our favourite moments from the day.
