We love comparing before and after pics. Earlier this month we stopped by to see a project in Herefordshire which had reached completion. The result was fantastic – and the frame looks great underneath it!

If there's one piece of advice that could save you thousands on your self-build project, it's this: bring your timber frame supplier into the conversation as early as possible.

Cost is king right now, so don’t get blinkered with extra unnecessary costs until you know your build route, and then seek specialist advice from the start.

Early engagement means:
• Designs that work efficiently with timber frame from day one
• Avoiding costly redesigns and delays
• Not spending money on consultants you don’t need
• Access to specialist knowledge throughout your project
• Better cost certainty and value engineering
• A trusted partner who understands your vision and your budget

It was great to be out on this site visit last week. The ground was a little sticky after rain overnight, but the concrete was poured ready for the block work and suspended floor, and it's good to go for the timber frame delivery in a few weeks time.

Watch this space for more in the coming weeks...! 👀

There's nothing quite like seeing a project come to life 🤩

Last week we stopped by this fabulous Herefordshire site we supplied the timber frames for, and the finished homes look amazing. Unsurprisingly, they were snapped up within weeks of going on sale.

Many self-builders don’t realise how important is is to consider a structural warranty. As well as offering protection against defects, many banks or building societies won’t lend money without one, and if you want to sell your home within ten years, it can be tricky without a warranty.

We asked Simon to explain why a structural warranty is so important. Read the interview in full here: https://www.frametechnologies.co.uk/insights-updates/structuralwarranties

Do you have the vision to turn an agricultural building into your dream home?

Old farm buildings can offer stunning features, such as double-height space, old beams, beautiful stonework, timber cladding and rustic charm. By protecting and working around the original character of the barn, you can create a really striking home – just like Murray and Lucy did with the barn conversion pictured.

Choosing the right insulation for your self-build is a delicate balancing act. It’s not just about choosing insulation that keeps your home at the optimum temperature; it’s about selecting an insulation material that complements the timber frame technology you will use in your new home, is readily available at a good price, meets your sustainability goals, and meets your budget.

We asked Simon for his advice on what to consider when it comes to insulation. Click here to read the Q&A in full 👉 https://www.frametechnologies.co.uk/insights-updates/need-to-know-insulation

True value isn't what something costs when you buy it, but what it delivers over its lifetime.

A timber frame home with excellent fabric performance costs less to heat (and cool!) year after year; it's more comfortable; it qualifies for better mortgage rates, and it retains its value more strongly. It’s a fabric first, fit-and-forget solution that is worthy of your investment.

One of our best pieces of advice for self-builders is to make sure you don’t get seduced into cutting costs in crucial areas when budgets are tight. The clients who come back to us most satisfied, years after moving in, are nearly always the ones who built to the highest fabric standard they could afford, and who now live in homes that are warm, efficient, and genuinely future-proof.

To find out more about why value is so important, and for advice on what to look out for when comparing quotes, read our latest blog post: https://www.frametechnologies.co.uk/insights-updates/choose-better-value-not-just-better-price
