🪵 A roadside job this week on the A87 removing two spruce trees with overhanging branches!

A very rare opportunity too where the client dealt with all the arisings makes this one of the simpler jobs we have done in a while!

For me. The beam will form a lintel over the side access to the sawmill shelter meaning I can still utilise the sawmills current maximum log length of 6.2 metres.

The beam measures 11 metres long by 400mm deep and 100mm wide. Sturdy! 💪

Unfortunately I’m still off work personally for a few months yet for health reasons but continue to head in the right direction. 🤒

Barny showing why he’s worth the big bucks, reducing what may as well be the Arbor equivalent of tender stem broccoli. 🌳

This eucalyptus was quite tall and multi stemmed so as a result all the trunks or limbs are very spindly, few lateral branches make getting footholds and purchase awkward. A bit like climbing a ladder with missing rungs!
And to cap it all off Eucalyptus is quite an oily wood, which makes for a slick climb even on a dry day! So whilst not the biggest of trees, an awkward one none the less.

We last pruned this about 6 years ago to maintain a view of the castle and five sisters from the property, this time we have reduced the tree a smidge lower to hopefully lengthen that time span and rounded in the edges too to keep the natural aesthetic as much as possible.

All in all, some awesome work from the Barny, and a happy client. 💪

Partial reduction on a mature western red cedar on the west coast.

Photos show this old boy in situ circa 1940s!

It sustained a lot of damage to the back limbs over the years, various broken limbs sheared off in storms, rot cavities as well as considerable evidence of a hungry wood pe**er!

After another section broke off during storm Amy the owners made the decision to partially reduce the tree in height and hopefully it will remain where it is for many years to come!

🌲 A picturesque start to the years work in letterfearn, clearing windblow high up on the hillside to open up an Argo track for stalking. A lot of damage built up over several storms but it’s amazing what a small expierenced team will do in a day. Hopefully the rest stays most vertical until the plot is eventually harvested, with some luck the old oak trees haunting the various stands don’t keel over with exposure!

In other news, I’ll be taking a hiatus from active work duty due to illness for about 6 months whilst I receive treatment. The buisness will still be quietly ticking over and undertaking work during my absence. So by all means do get in touch!🌲 💪
