October is Unblocktober - read our latest blog about it: https://maintaindrains.co.uk/unblocktober

Unblocktober is a month dedicated to helping protect our drains, sewers and waterways by being more careful about what goes down our sinks and toilets.

From fats, oils and grease to food waste and wet wipes, some everyday habits can cause much bigger drainage problems than you might expect.

In our latest blog, we look at why Unblocktober matters, some of the most common causes of blocked drains and a few of the more unusual things the Maintain Drains team has found underground over the years.

Every October, Unblocktober encourages people and businesses across the UK to think more carefully about what they put down their sinks and toilets. The

I’m Jon from Maintain Drains.
We’ve been sorting drainage problems around Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch and the surrounding area for 20 years now — and you’d be surprised how often we get called out to something people have been putting off for weeks because they’re not really sure who to call.
Slow-draining sinks. Toilets that keep blocking. Bad smells. Gurgling drains. Water coming up where it shouldn’t. Rats getting into the drainage system. Or a drain that keeps blocking no matter how many times it’s cleared.
We deal with everything from straightforward drain unblocking through to CCTV drain surveys, high-pressure jetting, drain mapping, relining, root removal and excavation/repairs.
We’re local, fully insured and have a team of experienced drainage engineers — and we’re always happy to have a look and tell you what we think.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, stepdads, grandads and father figures out there.

As a proud family business, family is at the heart of everything we do. While many of us are enjoying some family time today, our team is still on hand and we’re open as usual for any drainage emergencies.

Have a great day everyone!

🚨 We're Hiring: Operations Manager 🚨

Maintain Drains is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join our team.

This is a key leadership role, overseeing the day-to-day operations of a busy drainage business, supporting our engineers and office team, and helping to continue driving the business forward.

We're looking for someone who is organised, proactive, practical, calm under pressure, and enjoys solving problems in a fast-paced environment.

This isn't necessarily a case of "send us your CV today". We're more interested in having conversations with the right people and exploring whether there could be a good fit. For the right person, there's a genuine opportunity to become an integral part of the future of the business.

Experience within the drainage industry or a similar reactive service environment is a must.

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, please get in touch.

Bournemouth’s Hidden Drainage Network: How Sewers, Pumping Stations and Sea Outfalls Work Along the South Coast.

Most of us never think about what happens after we flush the toilet or when rainwater disappears down a road drain.
But in Bournemouth, the drainage network is surprisingly interesting. From clifftop homes and seafront businesses to pumping stations, storm tanks, chines and sea outfalls, there is a lot going on beneath the town to keep everything moving.
We’ve written a local guide explaining how Bournemouth’s hidden drainage and sewer systems work, including why pumping stations are needed, what beach outfalls actually do, and why heavy rain can affect water quality along the coast.

Bournemouth is known for its beaches, cliffs, chines and sea views, but beneath the town is a busy drainage network that most people only think about when

Great to see this in full swing 🌱

We were glad to support Cornerstone Patch with a small contribution towards compost this season. It’s a brilliant local project and the work the volunteers put in really shows.

Spaces like this don’t just grow food, they bring people together and give something back to the community, which is something we’re always keen to support where we can.

If anyone local has a bit of spare time or wants to get involved, definitely worth reaching out to them.

🌸 It’s been a busy and beautiful start to spring in the garden 🌱

👩‍🌾 Huge thanks to our amazing volunteers who give their time, energy, and care to keep everything growing — we couldn’t do it without you!

🌱 We’re also so grateful to those supporting us in other ways. A special shoutout to for their generous donation, which has funded our compost and is helping us continue another year of sowing and growing for the community

🌿 If you’d like to support the garden — whether through time, donations, or resources — we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch! 💫
