Thinking about replacing your oil boiler? Read this first.
There is a government grant that pays £9,000 towards a heat pump instead, and most people we speak to have no idea it exists.
What it is
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is government funding for replacing fossil fuel heating with a heat pump. It is not a loan and there is nothing to pay back.
Who gets how much
£9,000 if your home is heated by oil or LPG. This is a temporary higher rate and it runs until 31 March 2027.
£7,500 if you are on mains gas or electric heating. This is the standard rate.
England and Wales only.
What it costs you
Our price for an Octopus Cosy 6kW air source heat pump, fully installed, is £11,995.
Take off the £9,000 grant and you pay £2,995.
On the £7,500 rate you pay £4,495.
Both figures are for a typical 3 bed semi and are confirmed at survey.
The grant has to go through an MCS certified installer. We have held that certification since 2010, so we apply for the voucher, and it comes off your quote before you pay anything. No forms at your end, and nothing to reclaim later.
What it means for your house
The Cosy 6 runs a flow temperature up to 70 degrees, so in most homes the existing radiators stay where they are. It works with 10mm microbore pipework, which is what catches a lot of people out with other systems. It comes with an 8 year warranty and you control it from the Octopus app.
What happens next
Tell us about your home online. Two minutes, and the heating fuel question decides which grant applies to you.
We survey it, free. We measure your heat loss, size the system and give you a fixed price with the grant already taken off.
We install it. Our own engineers, and aftercare from the same team.
