Thank you to all who visited my stall at various sales over the past fortnight.
Interest in the plants was high.

All houseplants taken outdoors need to be indoors by now. Check for any bugs that might be on the plants before moving them.

House plants will need less water from now on as growth slows. Too much water can lead to root rot.

The citrus plants are doing well. Oranges are starting to ripen. The late lemon flowering has given some very small developing fruits. I hope we eventually get lemons.

Look out for mealy bugs on succulents. They are usually covered in wool on the underside of leaves. Either use a spray or pick them off and squash them.

I've found a new use for tent pegs. They make great supports for small plants.

Remove old leaves from plants as they could hold pests.
If you use rainwater, check connections for leaks after the heat. A hose had split on one of mine.

When temperatures feel hot and uncomfortable for us, plants need extra hydration. Don't overwater, but think that they might need a drink. Some soils dry out quicker than others. The drier the soil, the greater the need for hydration. Think about feeding the plants, too, with either a liquid feed or a pellet feed. Stronger plants won't get as stressed.

Lawns are looking greener, and plants are happier for the rain that we have had. Don't forget that plants under glass will still need to be hydrated, ideally with rainwater. Composters will need to be watered, as moisture is necessary to help the material decompose. If there are ants in the compost that is removed for use, leave it on a tarp for a while to give birds a feast. Keep checking for bugs on indoor plants, especially greenfly and mealybugs. Small infestations can be picked off by hand using tweezers, but large infestations will be better tackled using sprays. Some plants that have been inundated with these insects should be destroyed.
