🌱 After the drought… what happens to your lawn?
After such a long, hot and dry summer, the rain is finally here! 🌧️
And while we might have been celebrating it more than most this week, it's particularly good news for our lawns.
Many are currently looking brown, thin and tired, but the good news is: brown doesn't necessarily mean dead.
Grass is remarkably resilient. During prolonged dry weather it effectively shuts down, putting its energy into survival rather than producing green growth. Now that moisture is finally returning to the soil, many lawns should gradually begin waking up and recovering.
But don't expect an overnight transformation.
The next few weeks will be important. We need consistent moisture and active growth to return before carrying out more intensive lawn treatments.
🍂 Once conditions are right, our autumn lawn care can include:
• Gradually bringing mowing back into the routine
• Scarifying to remove dead material and thatch
• Aerating hard and compacted ground
• Overseeding thin and bare areas
• Autumn feeding to encourage healthy roots
• Repairing areas that simply haven't recovered
The key is timing. A drought-stressed lawn shouldn't be aggressively treated just because we've finally had some rain. We'll be watching how lawns respond and treating them when the conditions are right.
After a summer when we've barely needed to cut some lawns, we suspect autumn could be a very different story! 🌱
If your lawn has taken a battering this summer, now is a good time to start thinking about its recovery.
