A plywood kitchen with its sleeves rolled up.

Oak-veneered ply, dark Fenix laminate, exposed edges, fluted glass, a coffee cupboard, a drinks cabinet, and a big island on castors doing what big islands on castors do best: getting in the photographer's way beautifully😀.

Not a blank-box showroom kitchen. A proper Scottish house with openings, angles, views, stairs, wallpaper, existing furniture and real life all happening at once.

Which is exactly why we like it so much.



Oak-veneered plywood, dark Fenix laminate, exposed edges and integrated pulls.

Our signature asymmetric Patchwork cabinets are hard at work.

A long working run with storage, prep space, sink, hob and all the daily graft built in.

Because the coffee machine deserves its own wee stage.

More patchwork cabinetry housing the hob and holding the cutlery, utensils and pans in place.

Open for ☕️ during the day.

Fluted glass sliding wall cabinets for everyday crockery.

Everything at hand where it's needed.

Tall storage, ovens and hidden practical bits, kept sharp and unfussy.

If you know, you know... an empty new-build with acres of working space is a rare luxury. 😄

Day 1½ on site in beautiful Galloway, and we're nearly there with this birch plywood and Fenix laminate over-the-face kitchen. It's such a pleasure seeing a design that has lived on drawings and in the workshop finally find its home.

This kitchen is destined to become the heart of a wonderful new family home, and we feel very privileged to be playing a small part in that story.

Looking forward to sharing the finished photographs once the worktops are in and the last details are complete. We think this one's going to be a beauty.

Yes, there’s a ladder in the kitchen.

And yes, it’s there on purpose.

Kasia & Paul’s home didn’t have endless square metres to play with, but it did have something lots of people forget about — height.

With ceilings just under 3 metres, we took the cabinets all the way up and added a library ladder so the highest cupboards could actually be used.

A little bit practical.
A little bit fun.

And a good reminder that clever storage doesn’t always have to be hidden away.

Birch plywood, Pale Olive Formica, fluted glass, and a proper family kitchen made to work hard. 🌿

Some kitchens quietly blend in.

This was never going to be one of them.

Alison & Euan’s kitchen is one of our favourites — a Victorian home, a little bit of 50s diner energy, and absolutely no fear of colour.

Teal Formica, yellow, tiny flashes of pink, warm birch plywood and cork underfoot.

We’ve always loved kitchens that feel like the people who live in them.

Not a showroom.
Not a trend.
Not something chosen because everyone else is choosing it.

Just a room where family life happens, made carefully from materials we understand.

Designed, cut, built and finished in our workshop in Highland Perthshire.

Still makes us smile this one.

A tiny kitchen with a very big personality.

Tucked into a shorefront home in the East Neuk of Fife 🏡, this compact space needed to work hard — every millimetre matters when you’re cooking between old stone walls and a sloping staircase.

Earlier this week our lovely client sent us these beautiful photos 📸 of the kitchen in use — swipe through to see how this small space comes together ✨. It’s always such a treat to see a Birkwood kitchen lived in and loved.

We designed calm, functional birch ply cabinetry 🪵 and created essential under-stairs shelving, making sure no space went to waste. The clients chose zinc worktops and splashbacks, a living material that will develop its own patina over time 🌀.

She later told us this little kitchen has become her “favourite part of the house” and that she “couldn’t be happier with what we’ve done.” 🤍
That absolutely made our week.
