Good design shouldn’t compete with its surroundings. It should belong there.

That was the thinking behind these bespoke steel railings, manufactured and installed by JB Corrie for The Crown Estate.
Designed to sit naturally within the existing estate, the railings were manufactured to suit their surroundings before being galvanised and powder coated black, providing a durable, low-maintenance finish that remains sympathetic to the character of the parkland and converted Old Dairy.

What are steel tariffs & safeguards?

As we head towards the end of Q1 for the newly implemented UK steel tariffs, we thought we’d take the opportunity to give a simple overview of what all this means.

A tariff is essentially a tax that a government puts on goods imported from other countries.

When it comes to steel, the UK uses a system called Tariff-Rate Quotas (or safeguards):

The quota (Tariff-free allowance): The UK allows a specific amount of steel to be brought into the country without any extra tax.

The tariff (The extra tax): Once that set limit (the quota) is reached, any additional imported steel gets hit with an extra tax, currently up to 50%.

Why does the UK have them?

To protect local industry: Around the world, there is a massive surplus of cheap steel being produced. Without trade rules, cheap foreign steel could flood the UK market, making it impossible for British steelmakers to compete.

To protect jobs & infrastructure: Steel is essential for construction, railways, energy, and defence. Safeguarding the domestic steel industry keeps skilled manufacturing jobs in the UK and ensures the country doesn't rely 100% on foreign supply chains.

What does this mean for businesses?

For domestic steel makers: They get extra protection against being undercut by cheap foreign imports.

For Importers & Builders: Companies buying steel from abroad have to plan their orders carefully so they stay within tariff-free allowances. If they go over, the extra taxes can significantly raise the cost of raw materials.

How has this impacted JB Corrie?

JB Corrie has always prided ourselves on our forward planning and sustainable procurement. So far, this has not drastically impacted your prices from us in anyway.

This September, JB Corrie is proud to be supporting the March for Men with Kev 2026 by turning our Petersfield site blue with bunting to help raise awareness of men's cancers and the importance of early detection.

Prostate cancer affects around 1 in 8 men during their lifetime, and events like this play a vital role in encouraging conversations about men's health while raising funds for important local charities.

We're proud to stand alongside our local community in supporting this fantastic cause and helping spread an important message: if something doesn't feel right, get checked.

Sometimes the best solution is the one you create yourself.

Recently, we shared how our 3D printer is helping us manufacture components for our retractable lighting system. Today, it's busy producing parts for our circular kit, giving us greater control over quality, availability, and future development.

From idea to finished component, it's amazing to watch technology help bring products to life, layer by layer.
