Watch the process of filling in an old external pool with inert rubble at one of our sites 👉

Here's what we did:

💧Drain the pool - Get it emptied and ready for the work.
🪛Core drilling - Drainage to allow the area to be safely filled.
🔨Prepare for infilling - Lined with geotextile to prevent migration and mixing
🚛Rubble in - Reuse suitable clean, inert excess rubble as fill
⛏ Compact the fill - Compact the material in layers to avoid voids & settlement
📐Build back to level - Continue filling to required level
🌱Finish the surface - Top off with suitable material and leave the area ready for its next use.

♻️ Less waste, more reuse - turning an unsalvageable pool into usable ground.

🧱 What is a DPC and why does it matter?

You might have heard builders talk about a DPC, but what actually is it?

DPC stands for Damp Proof Course. In simple terms, it’s a waterproof barrier built into the walls of your home.

Think of it like a barrier that stops water from the ground creeping up through your walls. 💧⬆️

Without a properly installed DPC, moisture can make its way into your walls and potentially lead to problems such as:

💧Damp patches
🏠Peeling paint or damaged plaster
🦠Mould
🧱 Damage to brickwork and finishes

A DPC is a small but very important part of the build — helping keep your home dry, healthy and protected for years to come. 🏠

It’s one of those things you might not see, but you definitely want it there! 👷‍♂️

This bespoke fitted TV cupboard and floating shelf, creating a clean, practical finish that works perfectly within the existing alcove.📺

The oak worktops and shelving add warmth, while the painted cabinetry keeps the overall look fresh and timeless. Finished with simple black handles and plenty of concealed storage, it’s a great combination of style and functionality.

The messy middle of a build is unavoidable - but the mess doesn’t have to take over. 🔨

At Hurstmore we take pride in keeping our sites as clean, organised and safe as possible throughout every project. Here’s what we do:

🧹 Daily clean-ups – At the end of each working day, we clear waste, sweep up and leave the site ready for the next morning.

📦 Materials kept organised – We make sure materials are stored neatly and securely rather than scattered around the site.

🗑️ Waste managed as we go – We remove packaging, offcuts and general waste regularly so it doesn’t build up and recycle where we can

🚶 Clear access routes – Keeping walkways and working areas clear is important for both safety and efficiency.

🛠️ Tools packed away – Tools and equipment are kept organised when they’re not being used, helping us stay productive and keeping the site safer.

🏡 Respecting your home – Where we’re working in an occupied property, we take extra care to protect floors, furniture and finished areas from dust and damage.

A building site will always get messy during the process - that's part of building! But we believe a tidy site is a safer, more efficient site, and it makes the whole experience better for our clients.
