A recent consumer unit upgrade.

The client had trouble with the Main Switch RCD tripping intermittently, multiple times a day, or not at all, with no clear pattern. Test readings did not indicate any damage to cables or poor terminations, they actually showed that most of them were in very good condition for their age!

It was decided to upgrade the unit. With the tripping issue in mind, it was even possible to split the circuits up even more, putting the utility room on its own circuit.

Now if a fault occurs it will only be the circuit with the fault to trip and not the whole installation, significantly reducing disruption and giving the user more insight into which circuit has issues, making it far easier to locate and remove or rectify the fault.

Continuing the work from the fire alarm system, the consumer units needed upgrading. Historically the property was split into flats, which explains why there was one on each floor serving only sockets and lights. This can work in the users favour, in cases such as here where each board solely serves one floornor section of the property. Some properties with multiple units can have circuits going all over the place, which can be confusing!

5 Star customers here, keeping me fed and watered these past couple of weeks, look forward to seeing them again in five years when it will need an inspection ☺️
