When I first started installing battery storage systems, I chose GivEnergy because they had been around for years and were a well-known, trusted name in the solar industry. At one point, GivEnergy was pretty much all we installed.
Then Anker came along, and I realised just how straightforward commissioning a system could actually be. Compared to the struggles we regularly had commissioning GivEnergy systems, it was a completely different experience.
We slowly started moving away from GivEnergy. I genuinely wanted to stay loyal to them because they’d been a big part of our journey, but when you’re constantly getting stuck on commissioning, losing hours on site and trying to get systems online, it becomes difficult to justify.
We decided to give them one last chance and completed another installation. A few months later, we heard the news that they were going into administration.
I won’t lie, it frightened me.
I’ve worked incredibly hard to build my business, and suddenly I was worrying about what this could mean for everything I’d built. But more than anything, I felt terrible for my customers. These are people who trusted me, took my advice and invested thousands of pounds in systems I recommended.
Thankfully, I’ve since managed to find someone with GivEnergy technical knowledge who helped me get one of our systems back online, and I’m incredibly grateful for that.
Today, we were called out to another GivEnergy battery showing a red fault light. We managed to get it sorted, and the system is working again.
But I’ll admit, every time my phone rings and someone mentions GivEnergy, my stomach sinks a little.
It’s genuinely sad to see what’s happened to a company that was once such a big part of our industry.
One thing I can say is that regardless of what happens to a manufacturer, I’ll always do everything I can to look after the customers who put their trust in me.
Because when I recommend a product, my name and my business are attached to it. And that means something to me.
