It’s been a proper race against the clock at Fort Kinnaird lately!

The main contractor running the fit-out for the new Wingstop gave us a shout recently. With their big opening day coming up fast, a few tricky roof leaks were threatening to put a serious spanner in the works. We got the lads out there quickly to carry out targeted liquid plastic repairs, making the main roof watertight so the teams inside could crack on with peace of mind.

But roofs like to keep us on our toes. Just this week, a completely new leak popped up on the lower section. With opening day right around the corner, we were straight back to the site to get it rapidly sealed up so the final handover could happen right on time.

There is nothing better than stepping in to help keep a busy commercial project moving. Wishing the Wingstop team a big good luck for their launch this Friday!

Great to be on site and getting straight to it! We’re really proud to have started roofing works at the stunning Pilrig Church this week.

Following a successful roof survey and report, the client gave us the green light to crack on with the necessary repairs. Getting up to those steep pitches and tricky high-level valleys is no small task, but as you can see from the aerial shots, with the lads safely working from the MEWP and the scaffolding now in place, we’re exactly where we need to be.

Looking after a historic landmark like this is a huge responsibility. Because we're officially listed on the National Heritage Roofing Contractors Register (NFRC), we know exactly how much care and traditional craftsmanship goes into keeping these amazing buildings standing strong for the future.

Pilrig Church is a proud part of the LARCH (Leith and Restalrig Church) community. It’s a real privilege to help them look after their properties, and we’ll actually be heading over to carry out works on St Margaret's Church in Restalrig very soon too.

We had a nice trip out to East Ayrshire recently to visit the beautiful Catrine Parish Church. Catrine itself has a fascinating history, it was originally built as a "model village" in 1787 around one of Scotland's first cotton mills. It's always a privilege to work on buildings with such deep local roots.

Our team was brought in to carry out a careful pre-renovation survey. Historic properties like this need a gentle approach. While a reliable, eye-level personal inspection is always our preferred method for getting a truly detailed understanding of a building's historic fabric, a drone survey is brilliant for safely getting a general understanding of those hard-to-reach areas. On this occasion, sending the drone up gave us a great overall view of the roof and the traditional sandstone bell tower. It allowed us to gather the information needed to put together a practical roof report for our client, helping to guide their exciting plans to renovate the church into a residential property.

If you’ve spotted a hoist on one of our sites, chances are you’ve seen this smiling face! Say hello to Andrew Davidson, better known to the crew here as Jimmy.

Jimmy joined the Bain & Irvine team back in May 2024 as a Driver Labourer and has been a reliable, hardworking part of the setup ever since. He is always willing to get stuck in and is a great guy to have on site.

Always keen to build on his skills, Jimmy holds his IPAF Operator Certification, making him fully qualified to safely handle powered access machinery like boom hoists and scissor lifts. Having qualified operators like Jimmy in the squad is a massive advantage for our day-to-day work:

✅ Enhanced Site Safety: Working at height requires serious care. Having certified operators ensures every elevated job is carried out safely and by the book.

✅ Smoother Operations: Being able to operate access platforms in-house means we can get up to tricky or awkward roof sections quickly and efficiently.

✅ Versatility on Site: From driving and labouring to operating the machinery high above the ground, Jimmy's certification makes him a versatile and valuable team member on any project.

We have recently been working at the beautiful Nisbet House in Duns, and our team was treated to some absolutely stunning views!

Surrounded by glorious countryside, this property is a magnificent example of historic Scottish architecture. Being entrusted with the care of a Category A listed building like this is a real privilege and a fantastic testament to our expertise as NFRC Heritage Accredited Roofing Contractors.

As part of a wider restoration project at the house, we put our traditional skills to good use. We arranged specialist high-level access to carry out expert leadwork repairs around the copper roof, alongside carefully repointing the historic stonework with traditional lime mortar to ensure the building breathes and functions exactly as it was designed to.
