A staircase is often judged from above. This one is perhaps best understood from beneath.

From this angle, the two flights of the Old Mill staircase reveal the full complexity of their geometry. The soffit flows through a series of changing curves, while the fine joint lines show how each limestone element contributes to the continuous form.

The post-tensioned engineering remains concealed within the stone. What we see is limestone, light and a sculptural soffit that appears almost effortless.

Designed, manufactured and installed by Carvero for the conversion of the Grade II-listed Old Mill near Peterborough, working closely with WGP Architects.

Stone carries a different kind of presence.

At Lantern House, the staircase rises through the home in broad, sculptural sweeps of natural stone. From below, the curve, the mass, and the precision of its construction reveal themselves gradually, creating an intriguing contrast between strength and lightness.

Not simply a staircase.
A study in form, balance, and material.

Lantern House, Warwickshire
Post-tensioned natural stone staircase by Carvero.

A staircase that changes the way the whole house is experienced.

A small glimpse of what is to come in Rothley.

This stone staircase is now nearing completion, and the character of the work is beginning to show.

The final stages are still ahead — some grouting, polishing, sealing, and the surrounding finishes — but the proportions, mouldings, and quiet presence of the natural stone are already becoming clear.

Hand-carved and installed by our Stonmeason team at Carvero in Leicestershire.

More to follow soon.

A beautiful bronze deserves a foundation of equal quality.
Each limestone plinth is handcrafted, with a simple, classical design — tailored to the sculpture and the space it belongs to.

The quiet softness of limestone enhances bronze naturally, allowing form, movement and patina to speak without distraction.

Designed for both interior and exterior settings, every plinth is carefully proportioned.
Hollowed internally to reduce weight, and available with discreet hidden rollers, it combines permanence with practicality.

A well-considered plinth adds real value.
It turns a sculpture into a composed presence.

For bespoke limestone plinths crafted around your artwork and setting, please get in touch.

It’s been a little while…
We haven’t shared updates on this project recently — but it’s been worth the wait.

This spectacular post-tensioned stone staircase is now nearing completion. All stone staircase elements are installed, and the custom balustrade and handrail are currently in the making.

The result? A staircase that is quietly breathtaking — full of detail, character, and striking geometry. No matter the angle, it draws the eye.

We’re looking forward to revealing the finished piece very soon. Until then, here’s a small preview.

A huge thank you to the team of the main contractor , who are now adding the final touches to the surrounding entrance hall and staircase — tying everything together beautifully.

Project Update - Lantern House
Here’s a view from below of the staircase — the second flight of this post‑tensioned solid stone is now complete, with just one more to go.

Each step is precision‑carved and tensioned to create both strength and elegance, and as the geometry unfolds, the drama of this staircase truly comes alive.

We are going to take care of the apron tomorrow and then it is all about the finishing

Next up: the final flight. Then, the full reveal.
