Did you know it’s Woodworm Flight Season? 🪲🪵
Between May and September, the Common Furniture Beetle (aka woodworm) wakes up and takes flight.
If you have timber in your home, this is the time of year to stay vigilant!
The larvae have spent the last 2 to 5 years chewing their way through your floorboards, joists, and furniture. Now, they are emerging as adults to mate and start the cycle all over again.
🔍 Signs to watch out for -
* *Fresh exit holes:* Tiny, round holes (about 1–2mm) in your woodwork.
* *Bore dust (Frass):* Fine, powdery sawdust pushing out of the holes or gathering on the floor below.
* *Live beetles:* Small, brown oval beetles found near windows or timber (they are attracted to light)
* *Weak floorboards:* Wood that feels unusually spongy or breaks away easily at the edges.
How to protect your home -
1. Reduce humidity: Woodworms love damp timber. Use dehumidifiers and keep your home well-ventilated.
2. Seal raw wood: Apply a preventative varnish or polish to exposed furniture.
3. Inspect second-hand finds: Before bringing that gorgeous vintage wooden cabinet indoors, give it a thorough check!
