Edit Landscape Design Landscape & Garden Designer based in Oxford So when you need more than just me, I’ll know exactly who to bring on board.

I design schemes that tread lightly on the landscape, embed and enhance existing or new buildings in the landscape, with planting that is both functional and beautiful, low input and high impact. Problem solving is at the heart of my process – how to minimise the financial and environmental costs of a project, how to create a manageable garden for you to enjoy, how to see the wood for the trees…Solutions from the simple to the radical to enrich your project. I’m there from start to end on every project, and over the years I’ve got to know some lovely and brilliant people – architects, gardeners, makers, crafters and landscapers. Every project is a story in the making, and I would love to be a part of yours.

We were honoured to receive the Sustainability & Biodiversity in Landscaping award with at the APL Awards last Friday for our Chalet Garden in Radnage.

This is the second garden we’ve created for this client. Over time, the brief has shifted - from more conventional expectations towards a more ecologically grounded approach.

Working with J&S Scapes, we rethought how water moves through the space. Rather than directing runoff into drains, it is slowed and held within the garden - through a rain garden, rill, wetland planting and wildlife pond.

What was once a concrete driveway and lawn is now a garden to sit within, and to move through across the seasons.

A reminder that these projects are rarely about a single idea. but about an ongoing conversation between client, designer and contractor.

If you’re considering your own project this year, we are taking on a small number of projects for Spring/Summer.

Great talk by the finale of the winter lectures hosted by

Fergus extolled the creative ecology at a place that is colourful, dynamic, dramatic, full of non-native plants, and ‘gardened’.

In depth ecology audits reveal a garden that is full of COMPLEXITY and DIVERSITY, more so than the surrounding countryside & even local nature reserves.

Perhaps not a surprise to us gardeners, but an important measure of the role we and our gardens can play in supporting the web of life, providing food, water & shelter, with the right level of thoughtful design & management (EDITING) working with nature.

We have been talking about this for decades but why does it feel that the conversations are still not heard at policy level? When private ‘vegetated gardens’ are deemed of little to no value for biodiversity net gain metrics.

There has certainly been a noticeable shift in how people relate to their outdoor space and value the connection to nature in recent years.

So maybe it is up to us to bring about sea change, and a generational shift of gardeners and teachers to imbue better practices and radical approaches to support nature in our back yard.

Gardens as MOSAIC HABITAT.

Thanks to for the ticket!

Delighted that our Radnage project, expertly implemented by , has been shortlisted in the Sustainability and Biodiversity category at the APL Awards 2026 . Looking forward to joining the team in March at the awards ceremony.

I’ve been collaborating with J&S Scapes for over 15 years, and we still share the same enthusiasm for working on interesting projects and exploring fresh ideas.

Being shortlisted in this category is an important recognition of our core values, Simple, Radical, Sustainable, and reflects our commitment to working in a way that minimises environmental impact while enhancing the spaces we inhabit for nature, one garden at a time.

This approach has been increasingly embraced by designers in recent years and is now more often actively sought out by clients, a joyful movement in our nature depleted land.

Another check-in, midway through a self-build of our design by the client. Amazing to see the care and attention they are taking in executing the work (admittedly he is a retired builder). A longer process than usual but a labour of love.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build unfurl!

An early morning visit to the new roof garden recently completed for at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.

Great to see the planting coming along well & surviving the heat. Of course it will take time for the grasses and more robust perennials to establish but so far Calamintha, Perovskia & Linum Perenne are doing a wonderful job holding the show.

The garden has been soft launched for use by patients, visitors and staff with the official opening party lined up for September after some exciting finishing touches over summer.

Special thanks to for an excellent install, for donating the lighting and their ever useful technical advice, just the right raised bed system for the roof garden, and for supplying the best quality plants in Oxfordshire (&beyond!).

Lovely joining my longstanding clients (garden no.2) for their village open gardens on Sunday. Great to see the joy it brought to all of the visitors and fun fielding endless gardening questions!
Now to encourage other clients to open their gardens…

As the year comes to a close, I’m happy to announce that a roof garden project at the Churchill Hospital Oxford that we have been developing with is due to be completed for spring 2025.

do amazing work raising funds to support projects for the Hospitals, which include funding new essential equipment, as the NHS simply do not have the budget.

Earlier in the year, my dad was looked after at the Churchill Hospital. Sadly, we lost him in September, but I have no doubt that their care and attention improved his quality of life and gave us some extra time together.

I am sure many of you will have similar stories of how the has helped loved ones.

was also a great support. has led the way showing how gardens can be generous in raising the spirits, healing and offering refuge from the uncertainty and calamity that come with a cancer diagnosis, the suffering and grief.

It has been really special to help transform an outdoor space within the hospital that will be used by patients, their visitors and the staff to connect with nature and the seasons.

Everyone involved has been generous with their time and support, full credits in due course, but in the meantime we are looking forward to working with who start work building the garden in the New Year.

Follow us for more on the story as the build progresses towards the planned Easter launch!

-10 to 33°

From big to small, working at various scales is what excites me. This project from 2021 gets lot’s of interest, for a pocket sized site it packs a punch. It’s been described as psychedelic, punk…whatever the genre, its an o**y of colour right through the seasons and full life.

One of a series of front gardens that face into an internal courtyard, it rebels against the status quo as the first to relinquish the lawn for a full scene of planting.

A scheme of stress tolerant species planted in 150mm of recycled sharp sand, the plants take everything the Chilterns climate has to throw at it, with very close to no maintenance save a late winter cut back.

Excited to see Labrador Bay House featured in the August edition of Grand Designs Magazine.

Less than 2-years since completion it is great to see the garden blending in to the wider landscape which was key to the brief!
